Although the base tracks were recorded in Florida, Producer/Engineer Bob St John did ODs back in Massachusetts at my friend's (now defunct) studio, Barking Spider. I was at a couple of the sessions -- Nuno was playing through the ADA/Macintosh setup through one of those home-made natural wood 4x12 cabs of his. For Nuno info, this is one of the best sources out there: www.nuno-bettencourt.com/Extreme.html I lived through that whole timeframe, and was close to basically everyone in the band... - Nuno was the best guitarist in the town next to mine. - I knew all the guys in his band, Sinful - I knew most of his brothers - I used to date his ex-girlfriend - I used to run sound for Pat Badger's band, In The Pink - I used to play gigs with Gary and The Dream at Bunratty's in Allston etc. etc. That page is pretty good... although Nuno and Gary definitely met at the video shoot for "Mutha" by The Dream, cuz I was there, too. Also, Nuno insisted to be the only guitarist - replacing one guy and having the 2nd guy fired. Sorry - don't ever remember any Soldanos in the picture? Nuno enjoyed a fleeting glimpse with the GK RL-250 amps in his days in Sinful -- but grew tired of the SS sound (and their plastic parts which broke constantly). Bought a Marshall 2210 in 1985 and never looked back... he played through that amp live up until the Pornograffiti tour kicked off. All for now from Nuno-central, -B[2] p.s. If you read that page -- the part about the Halloween gig at Celebrations in Kemore Square, Boston where they dressed up as "Aerosmith"?? That night was actually a "Tribute Band - Battle of the Bands" ... and while Gary and Nuno pulled off an impressive "Steven Tyler/Joe Perry look-alike" thing, they got their asses kicked by a KIZZ cover band (who had the full makeup and Destroyer-era costumes!!!) Funny that they left that part out?
Members zewango
I can only go by what Nuno said when III sides came out in the guitar mags where he said he used Soldano & GK. III Sides tone was great. Do you have an amp sound? Nuno: On the last record I pretty much used a Soldano head for rhythm and I used a G-K for solos. Live I just use an ADA amp
Members Voodoo Amps
ADA MP-1 > Macintosh Tube Power amp (HI-FI Audio Amp)> Marshall 1960 cab. I believe that he was using GT75s. This is correct. I've spoken with Michael Wagner (wonderful person and an amazing producer) and he did state that this is what Nuno used. Every now and again Michael does post here and perhaps he will pop in to post. With that said Nuno is an amazing player and has been since the club days in Boston as BerkleeBill mentioned. Have a great day guysTrace

I have read/heard that Nuno was always wierd about gear he used and didn't necessarily use on the albums what he said he did in some magazine. He said in one magazine that he used ADA/Macintosh setup, but i also have a magazine article where he said he used a small Fender combo for Little jack Horny. There were also rumors that he used a MarkIII for much of the album. Nothing suprises me because i also read an interview with him where he said he was extremely oppossed to the magazines tabbing out his songs. He said that people should people shouldn't cheat with tabs and figure his songs out by ear. And I'll have to insert my typical, Nuno is a assface, comment. I agree the tone off that first album is awesome!!!!! I like the intro to "Mamma!...." Im also not surprised he used the 75 watters. I used to have a similar cab, and whilst at times it sounded like icepickville, if you dialled it in right it helped me nail nuno with my Boogie. Nuno: On the last record I pretty much used a Soldano head for rhythm and I used a G-K for solos. Live I just use an ADA amp Best I can say to that is -- maybe he did? But...Nuno was always a very quirky player, and had serious issues with the idea that he was a "guitar god" and everyone was going to try and "copy him." He didn't want anyone stealing his ideas. As such, he was one of those guys that purposefully used to give out incorrect information on gear in guitar mag interviews, and didn't like it when they transcribed his songs/solos. But he was also doing endorsements, so maybe part of that was what Trace had mentioned a while back -- i.e., they don't print it if you don't advertise?? But in any regard, I know that there were a couple of Kramer Barettas in Nuno's active guitar collection, but you've NEVER seen any mention made of them in any guitar rag. Hell, one was even used on III Sides. But you'll probably only ever hear about the Washburns....
Members zewango
Did he use the Ripley Kramer for Our Father? Coolest thing is I have tickets for Extreme at Foxwoods in July.Gambling, Booze & Extreme couldn't ask for more....
Members Simon Garlick
IIRC, Pornograffiti producer Michael Wagener has stated that most of the album was recorded using a Steinberger with EMGs into an ADA MP-1. Wagener's comments, IIRC, were something along the lines of "I was the producer and he used what I told him to use, if Nuno says different he's {censored}ing with ya".
