Members therhodeo
I play a fairly wide variety of music ranging from jazz to rock to blues to alt country to modern worship. I own a Groove Tubes Soul-O 45 and a celestion loaded avatar cab to go with it but I'm looking for something with that voxy british sound. I know "why dont you just get a vox?". Well I really like the fact that the AD30 has 2 channels each with their own eq. I'm big pedal guy (I know the oranges are picky about od's) and I'd kinda like to branch out and get a channel switcher. Any big downsides to these amps that I should know about?? Anybody using one and loving it? I'd love to hear about that too.

Members kdp86
I dig mine! I wouldn't compare it too much to a Vox though. The other guitarist in my band plays an AC30, and don't think they sound very similar at all, the Orange is much darker and meaner sounding. It's clean tone is ok, but it really does light overdrive, all the way through very heavy overdrive really well. I love mine, here's a pic of my rig. Members jimSG
The Orange AD30HTC paired with an Orange 2x12 is a great combination. I don't think of it as all that Vox-like though. I have that AD30 rig and a Vox AC-30TBX and they are pretty different. To my ears, the AD30 is much darker.

Members jimSG
So too dark for use with hums?? I rarely play humbuckers through my AD30 or even the Vox. I play P-90s primarily -- an old SG, an LP goldtop and an epi Casino. I only have one guitar with humbuckers right now, a '61 RI SG. I bet I play my P-90 guitars 75% of the time. So...I really wasn't thinking about the tone in terms of how a particular pickup sounds with the AD when I replied since tend to play just the one type. I am getting some killer stoner/doom tones out of the P-90 SG straight into the AD...
Members therhodeo
Hmmmm. Some guys over at TGP say it can do a nice voxy sound but i'm worried because all my guitars have hums and I dont want it to be too dark.
Members JoshuaLogan
oranges are very dark sounding amps. and what did you mean with the thing about the groove tubes?
Members kdp86
If you're worried about it being too dark, don't get the Orange cab. They are very dark. The head is still a little darker voiced than your traditional british amp, but the cab makes more of a difference in that area. I use that Avatar cab with v-30s and it's not too dark, even with the LP.

Members Cliff Fiscal
You can get spectacular cleans with the AD30 as long as you drop in an AT or an AU. I only recommend one of the two, otherwise it gets too dark. I personally use Ch. 2 as my clean, and Ch. 1 as my gain. If I need something really heavy I just use a clean boost. Ch. 1 is much fuller. Members blackba
For a Vox amp, look at the AC50CPH. It has an AC30 inspired channel 1 and a nice gain channel for channel 2. If you keep the gain knob down on channel 1 the clean is great. Just don't expect an AC30 or even a vintage AC50 sound out of channel 1 and you will be fine. The Orange Rockerverb 50 I used to have always sounded like a dark, compressed Vox to me. Never played an AD30 unfortunately...

Members blackba
I'm not really looking for a hard rock type second channel. More classic rockish. Both the Vox AC50CPH and the Orange Rockerverb 50 gain channels will do classic rock very well. Neither is voiced like a peavey 5150. The Orange AD30 is probably a better choice than the Orange Rockerverb 50 for that though.

I had read alot of things about it being able to do Zeppelin and such really well.

Members therhodeo
What do you want to know? Just more opinions. Perception of tone can vary alot from person to person so I figure the more opinions I get the closer I'll be to the truth. The nearest Orange dealer is 2 hours from here and I want to make sure its something that would fit for me before I drive that far to try one. If you just want straight up rock tone, full, rock tone or indy type dirt....orange is for you. The tone is based in the lower mids, so it's got mondo balls. If you're looking for metal, you'll need a pedal, but even then the AD30 will mush up a little (tube rectifier). You can get a really sweet clean tone, don't listen to anyone else. All you need to do is change the preamp tubes. I prefer JJs because other brighter tubes add fizz. Experimentation is all you need to do. SO.......either way, it's a quality amp......that sounds really GREAT! The best part is, if you don't like it, the demand for Orange is unreal.
