I don't make it here to often, I'm usually over at OJHC, but last week I ordered a Les Paul Jr amp (GA-5), I ordered one when MF had em for 299.00, The last time I checked they no longer had em. No FX, just guitar(s) and cord, with a SM57 into a pre, which was not eq'ed in any way. The only thing I had to do was ad a bit of mid's to it in making the 2 track mic for ya. I' m still messing around with it, and I thought it was slighly muddy. I'm still working on the exact placement of the mic on a 8" speaker, I'm way more familiar with mic-ing 12" and 10" cones.

So far I'm pretty happy with what it can do, with out a box up front it's still louder than I need for late night stuff.

I posted some sound clips of the possiblites of what the amp can do.

It's hard to tell the tone of that amp. You got any heavier clips?

I'm not sure what you mean by heavier clips.

It's a classic rock amp. Do you want more bass, or more gain, or both

The amp will do more gain alright, but what I tried to accoumplish is recording the basic tones of the amp and what it can do.

If you're looking for a big bottom end this amp ain't gonna cut it. If you want high gain modern mid cut stuff, then you have to eq it off the board.

I'm more of a roots player.

In some ways it's a Carr Mercury lite, with less tone options . What you do with your guitar and fingers and pick attack is critical to any of the sounds you can get.

It kinda is what it is.

I have plenty of other amps that can do a more modern thing.

These clips were to kinda get a feel for the basic amp with out any BS, so minimal eq, no fx's.

I'm sure it isn't for everyone.

I need to tweak out the mic a bit, but as a recording amp, this thing should fit in the mix reall well. and in the end that's what it's all about. There's nothing like a great guitar tone that get lost in the mix because of bad eq-ing. That can happen to my Mesa's if I'm not careful.

I wish now that I tried for a cleaner tone, but I thought 10 clips were enough to get a feel for the amp.

5 watts is loud in the studio, but you ain't gonna gig with this one.

plus I own plenty of amp for just about any occassion, and plenty of fx too
