Considering I got this brand new for $200 and SIM unlocking software is readily available... yup. I could already sell this for the price of the top iPhone. Oh yeah, i can get an 8 gb flash for like 60. Eventually i can get a 32 (not out yet, but suported).

I may have to check this out once my next upgrade rolls around. Even if just sell it for an iphone

Yeah I just hit all the right timing-- my old phone's display broke, I was up for a new phone in a month. These are selling for 299 right now but I had a real hard time with the store for stupid reasons called up and bitched and eventually got the right guy to take 100 more off the new price to get it at 200.

If you're on an individual plan, however, check out the Amazon.com deals-- {censored}ing GREAT prices on phones, but you can't get them if you're on family plans.

The HTC stuff has an awesome homebrew crowd-- www.xda-developers.com -- in addition to all the people doing Windows Mobile crap.

No kidding . I'm on a family plan but my number is listed as the primary one. Would this still work, or would I have to sacrifice my plan to get the phone?

Sacrifice the plan. Amazon's contract as an ATT Authorized dealer only extends to individual plans. Lame, I know, but reality. What you need to do is somehow have a crap experience in a store, or at least, get a great story about a crap experience in a store that's believable, call customer service, complain about the service appropriately, if necessary ask for superiors, then wonder very obviously why it's so much more expensive than Amazon and claim you're ready to buy but after all the trouble you've gone through and how unhappy you've been with custom service you're not sure you can commit to a 2 year contract with a company charging twice as much for it's flagship phone that's been out for 6months.

Then get them to take off max they can and waive the overnight shipping fee.

That's what happened to me-- but we legitimately had an issue at 3 stores and have been ATT Wireless customers for 11 years through three company switches.

I had a terrible experience buying my last phone actually. I bough a blackberry pearl, didn't like it. They didn't provide any means to return the item to the online store so I was like wtf  and called them. They told me to drop it off at my local att store. No problem right?

Wrong. I didn't see the need to go through the bull{censored} of activating a new sim card, so I had just popped the old one into the blackberry, and took it out when I returned it. Well, for reasons I still don't understand the dude at the store deactivated it when I returned my phone without telling me. So I get home to find out I have no service. I call up cingular and the guy tells me to put the new card into my blackberry and he'll activate it. I tell him I don't have the blackberry, or the card, and he {censored}ing tells me I'm wrong. I spent 5 minutes arguing over what phone I had in my hands :freak: So I go back to the store, get a new card, and things are good until my next purchase

I go to the store and get a sony W810i, but as I'm about to pay they say my upgrade has been used up, on a blackberry pearl  Turns out that even after all that bull{censored} they still didn't put my return through. They say "it must be because you bought it online but returned to the B&M store" Well yeah, that was the only way I could return it  It takes the people at the store, who I will admit were very nice and helpful, two {censored}ing to get through to the dip{censored}s at cingular headquarters and tell them to give me my upgrade credits

/rant
That should be worth something right? :freak:

We had a similar problem. In December my sister's phone broke and she went to go get an upgrade. The douchebags give her a new SIM and activate it for my number (the primary account). Now suddenly, I'm driving, late to an important dinner meeting in horrible snow and I'm thinking that the local ATT tower must be down because my phone is completely weirding out. They go back to teh store when they realized the lines are crossed and they can't do {censored} to give me back my service and reactivate my SIM so I have to drive 20 mins to an ATT store the next day to get my service back. Now when I go to get my upgrade because my phone conveniently breaks a month before I'm up for my next upgrade, it turns out that my sister's incident because the store {censored}ed up grabbed my upgrade still, and despite the ATT website getting the devices correct, in store they're all {censored}ed and I have to steal my sister's upgrade back, essentially.

So I go to one store (after finding out it'd be $65 bucks to fix my current phone), and they're helpful but far from home (by the repair place) and I need to do my research. I go to my local ATT store and they start telling me to get any phone with a keyboard I have to have a data plan to get the rebate-- bull{censored}. It says right on the {censored}ing rebate card that a text messaging plan is fine and we have unlimited family text. 10mins of arguing with this {censored}ing hair in a super gelled blow-out guido and I just storm out of the store. My dad decides to come with me on the next round and we go to the store that {censored}ed up the upgrade with my sister in December. They start telling me they can't do the upgrade one month before it's up. Cannot be done. We start arguing we were at 2 stores earlier today, none seemed to have a problem. In 11 years with ATT it's not a problem. Who are you bull{censored}ting? He tries to tell us policies have changed, etc, and finally goes and gets a manager. Manager says they can do it, but only sometimes, and they've already exceeded their quota for the month and they're going to get audited and blah blah blah-- I've never had someone NOT want to sell me something so bad. Finally my dad looks at the sales associate and says, "Are you going to upgrade our broken phone and let us spend $150 dollars or what?" And he goes, "I'm sorry, sir, we cannot upgrade you a full month in advance." So my dad says, "I guess what you meant to say is I have to cancel my service and go to another carrier," and we both turn and walk out while the whole store's mouthes are agape.

Finally, we call up and find out we'd be charged $175 PER LINE to cancel. {censored} that.

So we push our way through the sales people on the phone and the first guy gives us a price worse than what's in the store AND online and won't do {censored} about the cheap as hell Amazon stuff. And, since we'd be taking my eligibility from my sister's phone, he can't guarantee we won't have hte same problem as last time. He says I should buy online to get the cheaper price, but be prepared to go to a store to activate.

This. is. crazy.

So we push our way up the chain a bit more, tell our story a few more times, and get someone who says, " I can't match Amazon, but I can take off 33% which is the employee discount and wave the overnight shipping. Also, I'll send out a new SIM because I can't not, but I'm not putting in any of the activation information so you just pop your old one out and pop it in this one and you'll be all set."

And here I am 2 days later unable to sleep...

But I do have a new toy...

Hey, where did you get it for $300? I was looking around on the att sight and they've got them for $450

EDIT- Nevermind that was the full price before the upgrade discounts :o

i love the perl though.. it dosen't have much space built in, but i got a 2gb microsd card for like 11 bucks shipped. i don't think they make microsd cards in any bigger size though?

wehn i bought, the bastard didn't even tell me i had to pay an extra $30 a month for it... apparantly i have to just to use it as my phone. :o

Having a smart phone and not having an unlimited data plan really negates the reason to have a smart phone.

there's a lot of features in the phone that i don't have in a normal phone, besides for email and internet browsing. and $30 seems kind of expensive for just those 2 things. i was just pissed because that bastard didn't tell me when i bought it, i would have probably still gotten it though.

Features such as?

Data plan utilizes the additional features.

memo pad, calender, address book, all that stuff and the way it's set up is great. big things are the text messaging interface, which i love, and the ease of typing.. i can type about 20 times faster on this thing than a normal phone, and i use around 1k text messages a month. the media interface and the way it works with my computer.. screen quality and quality of sound/video. normal headphone jack, all around speed of it.

all of these things are better than other phones i've used, and i just bought a new $370 phone 3 months ago.. this thing just blows it away for quality and ease of use, and it's no bigger.

so yeah, there's lots of reasons to own this phone besides internet, email, google maps etc. that stuff is really nice too though, especially the email system on it.
