Members Chrisjd
My splawn cab is a 16 ohm cab, how hard would it be to rewire it for 8 ohms? I want to take out the 16 ohm eminence governors and throw in 8 ohm greenbacks. Please list work involved and skill level necessary.
Members JonathanD
What speakers are in it and what ohms are they?
Members zoomzilla
You would need a stereo switch and wire 2 of the speakers in parallel and the other 2 in parallel and then have 2 8 ohm inputs. If you have 1 input then you would wire it in parallel and it would be 4 ohms, not 8.
Members Weathered
It's not possible without changing speakers. You can rewire to 4 ohms, but 8 ohms requires all 8 ohm speakers in series/parallel.

Please list work involved and skill level necessary. I don't think you can wire a 16 ohm 4x12 cab to 8 ohms without replacing the speakers. You can wire it to 4 ohms or 16 ohms or stereo 8 ohms - but not all 4 speakers at 16 ohms. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.EDIT: LOL - guess I was right

Members zoomzilla
Then just wire it in series and you will have an 8 ohm cab.
Members Weathered
Then just wire it in series and you will have an 8 ohm cab. Series/parallel. Wire each pair in parallel to make them 4 ohms, and then wire each pair in series to make it 8 ohms.

He said he's puttin in greenbacks (that might not have originally been in the OP). So I imagine it's probably exactly the same wiring as it is now with 8 ohm speakers in series. But I'm no EE. Members zoomzilla
Series/parallel. Wire each pair in parallel to make them 4 ohms, and then wire each pair in series to make it 8 ohms. Semantics! It's the same damn thing. Don't make me come up there!
Members fly135
Offhand I can't think of any combination of 4 speakers wired 16 ohms that could be changed to 8. If the speakers are 16 ohms then 2 in series wired parallel to another 2 in series would give you 16 ohms. But no combo would give you 8. Four 4 ohm speakers in series would give you 16 ohms, but 2 in series parallel to another 2 in series would give you 4 ohms. edit: I didn't read far enough to see you were replacing the speakers. Yeah, 8 ohm speakers would do it.

Members knucklefux
edit: nevermind. just swap the speakers one at a time and keep the same wiring.
Members Cibyl
I want to take out the 16 ohm eminence governors and throw in 8 ohm greenbacks. You can wire it up in Series-Parallel w/8 ohm GB's. It will equal an 8 ohm load.
Members Sixtonoize
To cut through all the bull{censored}: You take each 16-ohm speaker out, and replace it with an 8-ohm speaker. That's it.
Members riffhead
wait..im confused. i have a splawn 212 that's 8 ohms and it contains two 16 ohm speakers.

Members rockapede
I want to take out the 16 ohm eminence governors and throw in 8 ohm greenbacks. That's easy.....take a photo (or just remember) of how it was wired with the 16 ohm speakers and wire it up exactly the same way with the 8 ohm speakers. Members RoboPimp
Series/parallel. Wire each pair in parallel to make them 4 ohms, and then wire each pair in series to make it 8 ohms. or wire each pair in series to make it 16 ohms and then wire in parallel to make 8 ohms. This sounds a lot better.

Members Oblivion DC
wait..im confused. i have a splawn 212 that's 8 ohms and it contains two 16 ohm speakers. That's a 2x12 in series I believe. EDIT: whoops - 2 16 ohms in parallel gets you an 8 ohm load.

Members thinkpad20
That's a 2x12 in series I believe. No, it's in parallel. two 16 ohms in series would produce a 32 ohm cab. Two 16 ohms in parallel produce an 8 ohm cab.
