Members v_c
The problem is with 100% of the UK spec amps. Because of some wrong design (something simple like a couple of resistor values), the amp has a very narrow input-voltage window. UK voltage is officially 230V +10%/-6%, but really its the same 240V supply that it was before the EU standardization. I don't know what the HT-5 was designed for, but anyway, they got it wrong. Of course, voltage supply varies across the country (and with time/seasonal variation also) so some people have experienced it, and some havent. But ALL amps are affected. They have made some design changes, and if you report the problem they will make the necessary modifications (just some simple component changes). If I had one, I would ask for the mod/fix whether I could hear the problem or not. US-spec amps should be fine. I dont know about EU amps, but there is such a regional variation of Voltage across the EU that I would bet good money they have gotten it wrong also.
