No news too trivial, no bragging right too small. Whether your latest triumph was a multi-album deal or a good night at your local open mic -- there's room to talk about it here... smile.gif

Here's this month's Official Showcase Thread where you can post your completed projects, links to finished works (even old ones) you want your pals here in the SW forum to hear, promo videos, covers of other people's songs, or just generally shameless self-hype that you're far too professional and courteous to post in the main forum.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: the HC SWF Facebook page is also available for posting your finished work, vids, carreer news, etc. Feel free to post here and there, if you like. smile.gif

POST 'EM IF YOU GOT 'EM!

This was a fun project.

Instrumentation is all over the place, flutes and marimbas to greasy slide guitar.

I did some acoustic guitar and mandolin, harmonica, sang on a track, and brought the greasy.

I checked "Go Tell It on the Mountain" -- a fun track!

Love the cover art, too. I'll have to check out some of the other tracks...

Thanks!

There are a wide range of styles represented. It was fun to be part of such an eclectic project.

We are doing a couple of performances this year which should be a good time.

Good work - I haven't listened to much yet, but I might save it for Christmas.
Last year it was stinking hot on Christmas Day (40C) and I scribbled out a title, and hook line, 'How can it be this hot on Christmas Day?'
I didn't have the will to write it though.
Maybe the Baton Rouge vibe will be right fo Chrissie Downunder.

I really like the album cover - that's clever.

We went and got a Christmas tree last weekend. I was only wearing a short sleeve shirt. Didn't quite feel right. I definitely feel ya on that front. I'd like to hear 'How Can it be this Hot on Christmas Day.'

Two songs off the record were written for the project, Christmas Time for Sho and Shiny Things.

Here is a song that I wrote many years ago... I was going to start it from scratch for a re-record but found a demo of it with a vocal performance that whilst not being perfect I just couldnt recreate for some reason.... so I have built on the track instead.

I was really pleased when I wrote this and had BIG ideas for it that I just couldnt pull off at the time. Hopefully I have now.

I am putting it here because it is too late for any lyrical adjustments.

Hope you like

Now it's all gone.

Am I turning to dust?
Or corroding like rust?
Disappear from your view.

Do I live inside you?
Am I there when you sleep
I know I'm there when you wake
Im in the pills that you take

The formula was faulty
Your batteries ran down
the magic you are making
Is lost on this poor excuse for a town

The sea tasted salty
But you sank like a bomb
The magic you are making
Lost its mystique
And now it's all gone

So im feeding off you
Painting pictures of you
Curse the day that you grew

Lets go back to the start
With the red of your heart
Is it beating for me?
Like the fruit on the tree

The formula was faulty
Your batteries ran down
the magic you are making
Is lost on this poor excuse for a town

The sea tasted salty
But you sank like a bomb
The magic you are making
Lost its mystique
And now it's all gone

Your eyes cried like rain from the clouds
Dropped tears from your face to the ground
Your eyes cried like rain from the clouds
Your eyes cried like rain

Just got back from doing a TV interview for the Christmas Record.

Nerve racking.

I like to think I'm eloquent or at least a pretty good bull{censored}ter, but every time I have to do a TV or radio spot, I remember that I'm not near as good as I think I am. facepalm.gif

I recently had the very uncomfortable experience of hearing a radio interview I did at 20 or 21. Oh jeez... I was so... uh. Yeah, I think that only comes from either lots of experience, or an uncanny ability to be yourself in what can be a very unnatural environment and setting. Do you have a recording of it?

I had a few people tell me they got it on the DVR, but I still haven't seen it.

The songs are all really straight forward and fun to jam with. I don't have to worry about coordinating schedules, writing, or remembering lyrics. I just show up, plug in, and play!

I've been pushing them to book a show for a while and the attitude was always we aren't ready yet. I finally just booked one in January and told them they had to be there. If they waited till they felt ready we'd never get there, and really people don't usually get ready for something until they have to.

Mark Blackburn posted James Taylor's bartender song on his "A Great Melody First..." thread, and it reminded me of this song, which I wrote in 1991, when I spent a week living in the Hotel Belleclaire on Broadway & 77th.

And yes, I knew a bartender at the time. And her name was Darlene.

The Bartender

V.1
She works by the light
of a neon sign,

with her red hair in curls
and her bright eyes that shine.

And when I run low on whiskey and wine,
