Of course we are here to talk DIY, but it would be cool to have a list of references to useful information / cool places.

Useful:

http://www.guitarnuts.com/index.php

Lots of useful guitar wiring tips, tips for amp design etc.

Cool:

http://www.4mspedals.com/

Hand made pedals to completely custom specification and kits for off kilter designs for normal things such as phasers etc. They'll freely distribute schematics also for those who want to go it alone.

Everyone please note that this is a forum not only for building effects projects, but also guitars, amps, speaker cabinets and other music related projects!

Best regards, Jack

www.alliedelec.com has good parts selection too.

E-bay can be a great resource, old transistors, pots, and other cool bits. Sometimes the costs are more than from other suppliers, sometimes not, you have to watch what you are bidding on.

And never forget www.arrl.org , check the link for hamfests. These are used electronics fleamarkets. Often you can get the greatest scores at these.

Just remember that with the different skill levels, safety should be emphesised and expanded on when appropriate. Let's avoid the need to call 911 for anybody;)

Maybe a "Saftey Sticky" wonldn't be such a bad idea? I'm not the one to write in though. Heck, I'm lucky I'm not already pushing up the roses.

Good point. I recommend everyone who is considering a DIY amp project or trying their hand at mods or repairs read the Tube Amp Safety Info at Drifter Amps

Also, there is a good article on shock hazards we all face when playing through electrified instruments and why we should NEVER EVER defeat the ground lug on a piece of equipment at Guitar Nuts.

One other place worth mentioning to DIYers is Paul Ruby's Amplifier Site which includes, among other things, outstanding step-by-step instructions on how to start a new amp build for the first time and how to trouble-shoot unwanted noise in an amp.
