For my band we play with distortion 99% of the time so the 50 is great, it goes into power tube crunch earlier, which is really cool. I can get the 100w to go into power tube distortion but it is a bit louder. Now if you need distorted tones AND loud, clean tones, then the 100w is the way to go. The Normal channel is really a crunch channel and it distorts early so you have very little play on the normal gain to keep it really clean. In that case you really need the extra headroom on the 100w to bring the normal master up to get the clean tone to cut through a loud mix.
