Members JaGi
I have a Yamaha studio lord, the higher end models are pretty nice and weigh a tonne. Searching for the gems takes research and a lot of ebay searching...
Members Johnny Z
Epiphone some of the higher end ones are just about as good as a Gibson and cost less than half.

Members guitarsk8er239
Before ruling out gibson, try a BFG.They're ugly, but the neck is and they sound great
Members Valtiel
I've been told the singlecuts are not exactly LP sounding either. True for the original Singlecuts and SC250s, but the SC245 is nails it IMO. Scale length is the most important thing here I think, the original Singlecuts were 25" but the SC245 is 24.5" which is definitely an important part of the LP tone and feel. Members Neilrocks25
I really like my Edwards, I also likes my yamaha studio lord (heavy as hell) but the Edwards won for me. I see a lot of good les paul copies around here.

Members thenakedarab
One of the fastest necks you'll ever play. Like a Wizard 2 Ibenez neck but more substantial, and also more resonant due to the set neck construction.
Members superflyinmonke
I would love a Heritage. The true gem, IMO, of the LPs are the Gibson Historic series or ESP Navigators. That's notwithstanding the price range indicated though.

Members PM99
Was looking for a backup guitar to my Gibson LP standard and after trying a Burny, Yamaha Lord Player and Tokai (Japanese built) it was a no brainer to keep the Tokai (Japanese built) guitar. At least for the guitars I tried out the Burny just didn't sit well for me (may have been a lemon coz I know these are generally good guitars). The Yamaha Lord Player was too heavy and again I didn't gel with it (but again I tried it coz I heard good things from a lot of people). As soon as I held the Japanese built Tokai in my hands for the first time it felt right for me and played even better!I guess you've gotta try, if possible, before you buy coz a lot of it depends on the individual instrument as much as with your playing style and what works for one guy may not necessarily work for another despite them all being quality instruments.Good luck with it. Members the_bleeding
i like the neck most of all about these bad boys. Electronics and bridge leave something to be desired, but it plays like a dream.
Members MyNameIsMok...
Highly recommend Heritage. I have a Heritage H-150CM, their Les Paul standard, its my fav out of the 15 or so guitars that I own. Used, they can be found for your budget. Good luck. This man speaks truth. Godspeed.
