If only I'd thought of the right words

I could have held on to your heart

If only I'd thought of the right words

I wouldn't be breaking apart

All my pictures of you

Dude, no Cure. Unwritten law: it would make it one monotonous thread. :cop:

(just kidding; welcome to HCAF) :)

If you have to go don't say goodbye.
If you have to go don't you cry.
If you have to go i will get by.
Someday i'll follow you and see you on the other side.

Smashing Pumpkins - For Martha
It's about Billy's mom passing away. Makes me think about my grandma that helped raise me and passed away right before i turned 18.

Long years ago I fell in love
With a lady proud and fair
So passionate were she and I
We made fire in the air
I loved her more than life itself
She loved me just the same
And it broke my heart
To think we'd part If she ended the affair
But I was brutal, I was ignorant,
I was cruel, I was brash
I never gave a damn about
The beauty that I'd smashed
No sadist I, I found delight in
Making my love cry
Now I'd pray for a single kiss from her
To be lashed and crucified
And now I fear this lady fair
Can never more be mine
Long gone are nights in my lonely bed
All suffering and crying
And though I fear that through this life
She'll call me only friend
'Til I'm dead and buried in my grave
My love will never end

Also, "If you leave before me" by Mike Ness. Great song with some sad lines.

Not a really a Blink 182 guy, but the line "I can't wait 'til I get home to pass the time in my room alone" gives me shivers man.

I had a friend named Adam die in a car wreck right around when that song came out. Then, I listened to this song on spring break with my bro James for like a week. Then, he died in the army. :(

This always struck me as the most bittersweet little bit. Its almost uplifting in a hopeless kind of way.

Against Me - Armageddon

And for the four-year-old girl found dead in a dumpster
shot by her mother, her eulogy,
the sound of construction through head-to-head traffic
today is just another day

and me and my friends are just growing into the drunks and the liars
that we've always hated
every shortcoming has trapped us,
every mistake is now our own infinite failure

so we steal every chance we get
every advantage is taken when no one's looking
we hid behind closed doors, and we don't stop until
we are the people we've decided we should be

I wanna be a shot heard round the world, {censored}ing unstoppable
this distance is not something we'll regret
to here, and now, and then, and forever,
and days after that till the very end...

He said I'll love you 'til I die

She told him you'll forget in time

As the years went slowly by

She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall

Went half crazy now and then

He still loved her through it all

Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed

Dated 1962

He had underlined in red

Every single I love you

I went to see him just today

Oh but I didn't see no tears

All dressed up to go away

First time I'd seen him smile in years

He stopped loving her today

They placed a wreath upon his door

And soon they'll carry him away

He stopped loving her today

You know she came to see him one last time

Oh and we all wondered if she would

And it kept running through my mind

This time he's over her for good

Lots of good songs in this thread, but this one kills me. I have requested that they play this song at my funeral, but my wife says she refuses to play that "old sad bastard music."

Clapton - " 'Cause I know.~ I don't belong in Heaven" That's the saddest lyric I could think of.

When you consider it was about his toddler son who fell and died from a window, I don't know how the man can sing it and not break down bawling like a kid with a skinned knee. I'd be worthless...

I grew up dreamin' of bein' a cowboy,

and Lovin' the cowboy ways.

Pursuin' the life of my high-ridin' heroes,

I burned up my childhood days.

I learned of all the rules of the modern-day drifter,

Don't you hold on to nothin' too long.

Just take what you need from the ladies, then leave them,

With the words of a sad country song.

My heroes have always been cowboys.

And they still are, it seems.

Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,

Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams.

Cowboys are special with their own brand of misery,

From being alone too long.

You could die from the cold in the arms of a nightmare,

Knowin' well that your best days are gone.

Pickin' up hookers instead of my pen,

I let the words of my years fade away.

Old worn-out saddles, and 'old worn-out memories,

With no one and no place to stay.

My heroes have always been cowboys.

And they still are, it seems.

Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,

Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams.

Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,

Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams.
