Members guitarbilly74
So I believe my SGs have 300k pots, since this has been the standard value on Gibsons for many years now. What are the benefits to changing them to 500k? I know I could expect a bit more high-end, I guess (by logic). Any other differences? Is it noticeable enough to be worth the trouble? Members soundgardener75
If you were gonna put that Burstbucker Pro I gave you, keep the 300k pot. That pickup tends to be bright, the 300k should tMe it's highs.
Members sleewell
Seems to me the difference is about 200k, give or take.

Yeah, but the postman didn't leave it at the leasing office, and I couldn't get it out of the mailbox. I'll just pick it up at the post office when they leave that card if it's full. Members syscrusher
500k for the super distortion. You'll like the little extra bite it will have. 300k just dulls it up to much. The super distortion will have more bottom end to even it out. BUT, that's just my opinion.
Members ShaneV2
500K, all others are gay. That explains why the 300ks I use with my BB pros sound FABULOOOOOOOOUUUUUS. I'd use 500s with the super distortion though.
Members Kardula
wait until the '59 falls to 300k, then buy a bunch of them to sell when the market rebounds for 500k.
Members Miter Gauge
when I saw the tread title I just assumed that gibson came out with new models and and they costs $300k and $500k respectively

Members Wyatt
500K. Gibson should have NEVER changed, and they changed back for a reason. It was good enough for the first 50 years of P90's and humbuckers. With most, 300K just sounds muddy and anemic.

If I like it I will do it on the Special too.
Members Riffraff12571
RS Electronics upgrade kit installed, 500k CTS pots and some big ass music caps, 50's wiring & BB Pros (I pulled the covers off because I like the look of open coils on this guitar). They were bright until I set the pick-up height. Now I actually use my controls instead of leaving them on 10 all the time.

Members soundgardener75
Supposedly, JBs sound awesome with 300k on a Les Paul. I have yet to actually hear it.
Members madryan
I was actually looking at the RS kits just now. Do you think they're worth the $? The components themselves are very high quality. I've got the pots in my LP and they work as advertised and have outlasted all the volume pots in my other guitars. Members guitarbilly74
Cool. One more question: should I change all 4 pots or just the volume pots? I always have the tone controls on 10 anyway.
Members Ron Burgandy
Supposedly, JBs sound awesome with 300k on a Les Paul. I have yet to actually hear it. This is what I have in my LP and it's not harsh at all. It actually dulled the 36th anni too much and maybe that's why I wanted something higher output. Oh well, JB with the 300k is kick ass and I have no plans to change it. Even works with my sunface. It normally doesn't like really hot pickups.
