Members BDSMITH
I have yet buy a guitar that has the copper thin paper in side. But a few people have told me to add it to my build. Why ? Is it a Myth? thanks ,Brenda D:cop:
Moderators daddymack Posted July 16, 2011 Moderators Share Posted July 16, 2011 if you are referring to shielding, then no, it is not a myth.
Members mrbrown49
You haven't seen it on guitars you purchased because pretty much all companies that shield cavities use the conductive paint because it's easier to apply in a manufacturing environment. The exception being foil on the underside of strat style pickguards. Copper shielding works really great for shielding guitars though if you do it yourself. I prefer the 2" thick tape from stewmac. For good shielding you need to cover the entire surface of the cavity, front, sides and back. And all points need to be connected to ground. It's not blocking noise, but sort of redirecting it to the ground path.
