Members Stackabones Posted October 29, 2007 Members Posted October 29, 2007 I must've bought a bag a while ago for use with uke or something. Anybody else use these? Whaddya use them on? I've been messing around with one tonight on my nylon string.
Members guitarist21 Posted October 29, 2007 Members Posted October 29, 2007 I've used them before in stores and stuff. I think they're pretty cool, they have a cool sound, but I couldn't see myself buying one. Not nearly enough attack for me. Ellen

Ellen I understand Eddie Van Halen uses one but only when he really wants to shred. But seriously, I haven't picked one of these up since I was in high school (over 30 years ago) but now that you posted this I'll probably get one just to experiment with some tonal possibilities.
Members Phlat Phive Posted October 29, 2007 Members Posted October 29, 2007 Never seen one of those before... How does it sound? And how does it play... isn't it very 'floppy'?
Members Simon76 Posted October 29, 2007 Members Posted October 29, 2007 I have a couple of those things that I haven't messed with for years. Seems like I got them for either my autoharp or strumming a banjo. But IMO the sound was just way too dull for what I was looking for.
Members Samilyn Posted October 29, 2007 Members Posted October 29, 2007 I remember using one on an Autoharp wayyyy back when I was in school. Haven't seen one since.
Members happy-man Posted October 29, 2007 Members Posted October 29, 2007 I know that they are used for ukulele. Scott O
Members AndrewGG Posted October 29, 2007 Members Posted October 29, 2007 Bass players used to use them to avoid the 'click' with plastic picks.
Members daklander Posted October 30, 2007 Members Posted October 30, 2007 I've used one on bass guitar.I make picks that sound similar from harness leather. If you don't have ready access to harness leather an old heavy leather belt, used for tool belts, will work.I trace out the shape of a standard Fender pick, cut it out with heavy shears and then finish with a rasp, shaping the point and thickness as I like.
Members rjoxyz Posted October 30, 2007 Members Posted October 30, 2007 I wore one of those in my pants when I played goaltender on our college intramural hockey team!
Members DonK Posted October 30, 2007 Members Posted October 30, 2007 Bass players used to use them to avoid the 'click' with plastic picks. That's what I remember. I always figured they'd disintegrate quickly on a guitar, and would leave fuzz all over the place to boot!
