Members rawk out
I've had this guitar for a while and recently noticed how dark it is. It says solid spruce soundboard with rosewood back and sides. I changed the strings and that helped slightly, but a week later of light playing and it sounds dead. I have Dean Markley Blue Steels on it now. Feels, looks, and sounds great when plugged in, but acoustically it sounds very dull. Any recommendations for other similarly priced guitars or ways to brighten this one up?
Members garthman
Aren't Dean Markley Blue Steel electric guitar strings? Try a set of Martin SP strings - go for the 80 / 20 bronze, they are a little brighter than the phosphor bronze. Fender acoustic guitars however are not highly regarded sound-wise. Members babablowfish
When you are changing the strings, switch the bridge pins to brass pins. D'Andrea makes some good cheap ugly ones; John Pearse makes some beautiful but expensive ones. They will brighten the tone and increase the sustain. No.http://www.deanmarkley.com/Strings/Acoustic/BlueSteelAc.shtml I've tried 85/15 and thought they were the worst strings ever, not sure if I feel like giving the 80/20s a go. Well the DM Blue Steel are certainly sold as electric guitar strings in the UK: http://www.stringbusters.com/frameset.asp?MAIN=http://www.stringbusters.com/ko-kat/ELECTRIC%20STRINGS/DEAN%20MARKLEY/ If you don't like bronze strings I don't know what to suggest. I think you will probably find that virtually everyone here uses bronze strings of one type or another.
Members T.B.
Give Ernie Ball's 80/20s a spin. Does your Fender have ebony or plastic pins? If you have the former, I would try the latter. That's a handsome guitar you have. Trina
Members rawk out
Currently has plastic pins, I've found some Bone pins I may try, but Brass is also sounding interesting. I'll have to check things out.
