Members DarkHorseJ27
What is the action on your guys' acoustics? I'm planning on lowering mine (it is still at factory height) but I want some numbers so I have some sort of reference. Thanks.
Members OldGuitarPlayer
Measuring at the 12th fret I usually keep my action around 3-4mm at the low E string and about 2mm at the high E string.
Members outdoorgb
Well, just in case I'll reference this:The Annexhttp://www.thekrashsite.com/hcag/or frets.comhttp://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/pagelist.html and make sure all is good. I run my dread at the .110 12th fretI like the fingerstyles a little lower, around .095-.100ish...It is important to know what the string height is at the nut (Frets 1, 2,3) also. This will effect the resultant. The two links taught me much. I've used them to flip beaters off craigslist, tune up my traveles, and replace saddles on my better guitars. Good luck. And if you lower it too much you can get a new saddle here:http://www.guitarsaddles.com/
Members happy-man
OGP likes his bass strings higher that I do. I put my low E around 3/32in (2.4mm) and my high E around 5/64in (2mm) If the neck/frets are in good shape, that's a good place to get easy playing without any fret buzz. Any lower and you start to get to the point were you might sacrifice some buzz for easier playing. I pick and strum. Scott O
Members Sangemon
I'm using Lights and Mediums (12s and 13s) and all of my guitars are set as follows: Neck relief is very close to .01" at the 7th fret when capo'd at the 1st fret and low E is fretted at the 14th. Low E is 7/64"High E is 3/32" The amount of relief changes slightly if I go from 12s to 13s, so the relief was adjusted for 13s on the dreads and 12s on the Epi and the 00-18. It's pretty comfy and works for me.
Members Freeman Keller
Follow Outdoorgb's link to the Annex, go to the Links section and read Bryan Kimsey's information on setup, particularly the three page article on action vs. relief. You can also get my general numbers from the Sick Guitar articles on the tech tab but I pretty much follow Bryan's advice.
