Thoughts and comments on the Ibanez EW20WNE-NT

Y'know the one - walnut laminated body. Anyone have one, like it to play and tonally?

I'd quite like a half reasonable acoustic that's a bit more forgiving than my old Suzuki with buzzy bridge and poor older style piezo system. One of these caught my eye, and I wondered what the experience here of it had been. I tend to be either a heavy handed strummer or play arpeggios with a pick - I'm not a fingerstyle player at all and prefer electric mostly, but need something that is shaped like an acoustic guitar and sounds OK.

Thanks guys.

I'm an Ibanez owner and fan but steer clear of the EW20WNE-NT. The entire Exoticwood line is designed to look cool but not for particularly good unplugged tone. It has the "shaped like an acoustic guitar" part down but that's about all. If you must have an acoustic/electric, the Takamine EG220SC-NS (http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/acoustic_guitars_detail.asp?stock=05120210475428) is a decent choice and is actually a bit cheaper. The EG460SC (http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk/product-detail.asp?id=3753&catid=4&manid=105&quantity=1&product=Takamine+EG460SC%2C+Natural%2C+New) is another choice for a bit more money.

Generally true, athough I wouldn't be quite so hard on the Artwoods. They're ok, but I agree they are definitely more about looks. Some much better choices in the Ibanez line are the moderately priced (low threes to mid fours)AEL models here which are all maple, large body dreads w/ cutaway and onboard Fishman electronics and (even better) the brand new for 2009 Ambience line here. Ambience models have better electronics and an arch backed body. They look great (better than any of the artwood models IMO) and they are VERY nice to play. Low end A100xx models are pretty moderately priced and can be had for less than four hundred bucks. The sexier A300xx models are very competitive in tone and volume with certain well known (and much higher priced) brands but should still be south of six hundred in most stores. I am seriously toying with the idea of swapping at one of my AEL20s for an A300EVV or A300ETCS. Not that I really need to mind you

I wasn't being hard on the Artwood line. In fact, I own one, an AW120. I happen to think they're seriously underrated, although build quality dropped when production was moved from Korea to China. My comments were specific to the Exoticwood line and I stand by them.
