I have been playing around with an acoustic for about 6 months, but with no real significant playing time on it. I decided on an electric to really start learning and playing on. My first guitar was a horrible piece of crap that made me wanna throw it at the wall, which I eventually did. It wasnt untill I got a good guitar that I started to enjoy learning it.
