Members bluefoot
the reason I am so surprised is that those licks to me sound as good as stuff clapton was playing early in his career. and this in 58...w0w...
Members voneville
Yea, he's an old timer. He's been dead for about 10 years. He's probably more respected in Japan then here. Here's the Wiki Bio http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenton_Robinson I learned about him from Inside The Blues: 1942-1982 The book is great, the "lessons" as well as the history lessons are a really good intro to the postwar blues guitarists

Members Phil051300
I dont think SRV would be offended at the comparison either, he was always gracious about his roots, and where he pulled inspiration from. That was a great post. Thanks for digging that up.

Members GretschGuy
I'm serious about the SRV thing. SRV didn't really do anything new. He took a lot from a lot of people but if you consider what Hendrix was doing in the late 60's I don't see SRV as anyone who did anything different. Not that he wasn't a good player. Uli Roth is a bad azz mofo if you've ever seen him in his 'blues' period. I wouldn't doubt SRV was a fan. Now Uli is doing the Sky guitar thing. The guy is the most underrated guy out there.
