Do ball-ends on strings REALLY effect your tone?

Yes, they do, but the real secret to great guitar string ball end tone was passed on to me by a female acquaintance who used her charm and guile with the assistant to the Guitar Tech of a very prominent guitarist with notoriously bad teeth to get the info. She said that the ball ends on his guitars were filled with liquid helium and the open ends were plugged with platinum. She went on to say that she hadn't actually felt his ball ends to see if they were cold, but that "they certainly looked that way."

If you listen again to those albums on vinyl and a good set of headphones, the difference is obvious. Now all my guitars have helium-filled balls. The tone can only be described as almost "superconducting".

Fender Super Bullets. They make the sound shoot right out of my amp! Honestly, it seems like I get more sustain from my strat with them. I know, it's probably because they are new strings replacing old but they do seem livelier than strings with ball ends on my Strat.
