Members chrisebrooks06
heres the story: bascially 6 months ago i bought a epi gothic explorer from a really nice guy on the bay, i was happy with his dealing of the transaction so i kept in touch with him, as he sold pedals and strings etc. the guitar was sold as new and today i recieved an email saying he has been accused by other buyers as selling fake guitars, i dont know whether its true or not, but it was enough to make me worry about the guitar i bought from him. how do i tell if its real heres the pics i have inc the crappy delivery box it survived the journed in. serial number: im sure the guitar is ok, cos the sellers feedback was top notch but any advice from you guys would be appreciated thanks chris

Members Kuz929
I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be passing off fake Epiphones. I think you's safe.
Members Big Pimpin' T
Send an email to Gibson with a photo of the serial number, and they should be able to confirm it for you.

Members f13ndus
It looks real enough to me, but I've never seen one in person... considering they seem to be about $400 new, I doubt anyone would make a fake one. But why is every single inch of that box is taped over...?

Members NOS68
Where did it come from? US or China? They do fake Epi's but I highly doubt they'd be worth a US scums time to import them.
Members chrisebrooks06
no, i dealt within the uk, thats where i live, but im not sure if he imported it or not.
Members germs
I wouldn't worry about it. If you paid more than the "new" price, it's probably a rip. But if you got it at a decent price, you're okay. Also - it is totally possible that this guy was dealing in BOTH counterfeit guitars and real ones. Possibly without his own knowledge. These days, some sellers are just opportunistic entrepreneurs looking to make a buck. I'd be suprised if most of them could tell the difference anyway. So, take it with a grain of salt. But I doubt that anyone's selling fake Epi's. And even so, it's probably coming from China anyway...so what's the diff?
Members chrisebrooks06
i wasnt scared to death by it its a cool guitar, but you know when you just have that little bit of doubt and all the fake guitars that are been sold at the mo, i had to ask

Members zosoKing5
dude your fine. even if it is fake, you sell it for 300 and its going to get picked up. i dont think you need to be worried about fake epi's. anyways, if you like the way it looks and plays, who cares? Members elvisart
Do you like how the guitar plays? Does it sound good to you? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. It's an Epiphone for crissakes.
Members d_dave_c
Did you take off the "Made in ..." sticker? I can see the adhesive. Where did it say it was made? If he is a retailer, he shouldn't be taking off that sticker. The first thing I thought of when I saw the box was the box that the guy who ordered from Musoland got: They do make a goth explorer, too: http://www.musoland.com.cn/list.asp?ProdId=0857 Dude! It's a fake!!!! Check out your serial # and the one on the musoland site - only off by 3 digits. That's too close in my book. Go after the douchbag. Post his name and ebay listing here and anywhere else you can think of.

Members Big Pimpin' T
The Guitar Dater Project can't identify the serial number. That's definitely weird, but I'd wait to hear back from Gibson just to be 100% sure.http://www.guitardaterproject.org/
Members Jamiegaskin
personally i think if you like the guitar, it really doesn't matter if you get a "genuine" epiphone or not

Members tumbleweeed
That yellow taped box looks exactly like the ones they ship from one of the Chinese "knock off" factories. It doesnt mean that your guitar is one of them but it may be a sign of where hes purchased some. There are {censored}loads of fakes being sold on ebay.
