Members Khronos
From one of Australia's most reputable vintage guitar shop, an absolute bargain! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GIBSON-LES-PAUL-STANDARD-1959-SUNBURST-BIRDS-EYE-TOP_W0QQitemZ290274400603QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290274400603&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted November 13, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 13, 2008 That's AUD, it's actually 385,000 US dollars, flippin bargain:) I'm a bit confused as to how if the pickup covers are original soldered and untouched how they know there's a zebra and a double creme under there:idk:I thought they only ever used black bobbins in the covered 50s PAFs

Members BydoEmpire
Well, it is cheap compared to Peter Green's LP - didn't that sell for $2 million? It's all relative.

I'm not sure what it did eventually sell for, or who bought it, but that is what it was originally on sale for after Gary Moore got rid
Members jerry_picker
If it is as they say, would the owner actually be able to play it? I mean, one little boo-boo and you might need (gasp!) to re-do a solder joint or replace a pot...

Yes, and this occurs only in 1959 models, I believe. If you pull a PAF out of the guitar and look at it from the back, you can see the edge of the bobbins around the baseplate. So they would be able to tell the color of the bobbins. That's nice...juuuuuust a little outside of my budget.:poke:

Members Professor Tom
The fact that the original output jackplate is cracked, replaced with the original in the case is a pretty good sign, I've never seen an old one that wasn't cracked. My first impression is that the guitar is what they say it is and I've handled a few in my time.
Members charveldan
Says " comes with original nylon nut".??? I thought all Gibbys had a bone nut, mine does, a 1960 re-issue??
Members catalinagooseV2
That is a sweet guitar. $385,000 is a little steep even for a '59 Les Paul though.
