Tube Amp Help

Alright, I hate to come on here looking for help when I haven't posted in nearly two years, and I REALLY hate to post this to Amps and here, but I figured you guys could help me out. Plus I'm REALLY itching to play right now

I've just gotten back into playing hardcore and picked up a Crate V50 tube amp, something I've always wanted. I haven't had too much time to play with it given work, but I've been going strong today. However, about an hour ago I turned the amp on, doodled a little bit, then all of a sudden the amp started making a loud clicking noise. I looked and the power light was flashing on and off and the speaker was moving back and forth. What the heck is going on? I don't know too much about electronics and tubes, but any help would be appreciated.

This isn't good. There is very little between the power light and the power supply. A loose tube doesn't affect the power light; maybe a loose (or shorting) electrical connection between the power cord and the primary of the power transformer; or a loose (or shorting) 6.3V filament on the secondary of the power transformer.

Either way, take it to a tech. Honestly, it should be an easy fix, probably just needs a solder joint somewhere. But if the power cord isn't connected solidly, there is a danger of all 120V AC being sent through the chassis. Wall current isn't generally lethal, but it can be.

Clearly, the HCEGF is just as I left it.

Advice and a laugh, even if it is at my expense.

Nah, we only do this when you're around :thu:

on a more 'on topic' route, I think your best bet is to take it to an amp tech, just because playing around in an amp could....well, kill ya.
Good luck.
