Members jds22
My son wants the Evolution set, HSH, for Christmas. These will go in an Ibanez RG350 with maple neck. What's everybody's opinion of these? What's the voicing like? Do they work well for multiple styles? Thanks

Members IbanezJon
The bridge is very ice picky.. stick to the Evo2 if you can, which is similar but has this treble spike removed.. the original Evo neck is fine though.

Members billybilly
I've always wondered how they would sound in a Les Paul.
Members Jimmy James
They sound great in the bridge and it's not peaky at all. It has a lot of output but there's no screechy peak. It's tough and flat at the top but cuts through the mix. They don't sound good in Les Paul style guitars and the neck pickup is too dirty sounding to be versatile. Members *BLEEP*
>> Thoughts on Dimarzio Evolution pups Well, if anything, this particular Dimarzio pickup model has evolved quite a bit since its introduction.
Members Canadian Jeff
+1 to the Evo 2 suggestion. I went from an Evo 2 to an Evo and I'm missing some of the 'girth' I was getting from the 2.
Members AJ6stringsting
Great pickup for Metal. It brings out the character of the wood of the guitar into the pick up, it boomy and thick. But the Carvin M22SD has taken over as my favorite bridge pick up. The Evolution and M22SD sound similar in a lot of ways but the M22SD has better headroom and way better treble response like an 80's Bill Lawrence XL-500. Members HELSTRUME
They are tight, bright pickups, with good crunch. They will show your flaws, so he better practice I used em for years, and like em.
Members jds22
Thanks for all of the replies. I tried to nudge him towards the Evo2 but it didn't work. He wants the Evo set. No biggie as they'll sound better than the stock Ibby pups. What's kind of strange is that this is my guitar but over the last year or so as he's been playing more it slowly moved into his room and became his. Funny how kids do that. Members Pizza Combo
Excellent pickups, tight, crunchy, very clear and well balanced with a high outputcan't ask for more

They're both great pickups and he'll have the benefit of not even knowing what he's missing. Which means he might do what so many of us fail to do because we spend so much time online talking about how to improve our tone: play
