Members Cliff Fiscal
I've done some research as to what pickups are available: Fralin, Lollar, SD, Novak, Rose, GFS, etc..... I've currently got some Rose Picassos in my CIJ JM....which are humbucking JM pickups. They're pretty sweet, but I'd like to regain some of that authentic JM tone. I'm just not sure which single coil JM pickups are more classic JM sounding, but yet still handle higher gain as well? suggestions?
Members Hiwatt Bob
I say you get a vintage spec neck pu--which is the classic JM sound. Then get either a tele or p90 JM bridge pu from Novak--for the rock toans.
Members boytbpc
I got Novaks, love them. All around great pickups.
Members hotmess
Mascis says that Seymour Duncan Antiquities are the closest to the original that he's tried. Novak is always good if you want a replacement pickup for your Jazzmaster that sounds like different pickups.

Members PunkRocker33133
My guitarist uses a jazz with Duncan antiquities sometimes and we're in a punk band. So I say those should work.
Members Fender&EHX4ever
Original Seth Lover WRHBs... ... at least that's what I'd use.
Members Aedes
I've got Novaks as well. Love them--I have the JM-V (vintage spec) in the neck and it sounds great, even with the heavy stuff.
Members Cliff Fiscal
My other big thing is microphonic feedback. I'm getting a little with high gain at gig volume with the Picassos..........but that's usually closer to the amp. (not sure if it's the pickups or something else causing it?) Will the singles be any better or worse?

Members erased_over_out
I've got the Extra Width JMs from The Creamery, they work for me Tell him what you want and he'll make them to your specshttp://www.at-the-creamery.co.uk/cus...tml#jazzmaster
Members stevics
My CIJ has the standard Japanese JM PU at the bridge and an American JM PU at the neck. This works well for me.
Members percyexpat
I've got these overwound JM pickups that sound amazing with distortion:http://www.at-the-creamery.co.uk/ext...ickup-set.html The overwinding makes them a bit less bright with more mids. A bit more P90-ish in the mids but still with the JM tone. If you're not in Europe I'm sure any of the US boutique people could make you something similar. I really didn't like the CIJ bridge pickup. thin, 2D and harsh. I didn't mind the neck.
Members Cliff Fiscal
I'm kind of torn..........there are some good options on eBay, or some Antiquities I or II.
Members Beyer160
I talked to Ken at Rose about the Picassos, and IIRC he said they were 4-conductor, which means you can coil split them.
Members six acre lake
I love the stock pickups that came loaded in my AVRI...
Members NBarnes21
Check out the Curtis Novak JM-FAT. I have a JM-V in the neck and a JM-90 in the bridge, and it's a great combo, but if you're looking for classic JM tone with more beef suited for rock then I hear that the JM-FAT fits the bill perfectly. Curtis is great to work with too.
