Got a cheap little setup, but I enjoy it.

I have a Pioneer 1120-K receiver and the Mirage MX speaker set.

For a first home theater, it has/does everything I need for now.

I've got a Denon receiver and A set of Boston Acoustics speakers. Sounds great IMO, my Only beef being that it doesn't seems as loud as it should be at times.

a year ago I got this Yamaha system and it's worked out really well

                        http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YHT-494...maha+YHT-494BL

I also got the Logitech Harmony 700 remote to control the Tuner, TV, Xbox, PS3 and Cable Box... it's worked out great and I haven't had any problems so far

I have two Monitor Audio BX2s with a matching centre powered by a Yamaha RXV673.

The speakers are entry level, but are consistently reviewed as being the best in their price bracket.

Same goes for the Yamaha receiver.

You'll definitely need a sub for the low end though. I picked up Yamaha sub in a half price sale.

Only purchased and set everything up in the last month and I couldn't be happier.

                            Sounds amazing to me.
