  • Slap, Tap & Stuff: The Dark Slide Video Thread !

So a while back, someone asked me if I might be willing to do some videos on slapping.

Just basic stuff, he wanted some info on hand position and that sort of stuff... but I don't subscribe to that ****************. You play how you play, I play how I play.. you adapt what I show you to fit your style. That's my basic opinion on that.

But some basic exercises and how to apply them to music. And possibly if things go good enough, maybe some advanced stuff and the breaking down of some of the wankfests I have posted.

I figured if I was going to bother, I might as well ask everyone.

I don't have a FANTASTIC cam, but the one I do have is pretty decent and should be capable of getting the point across pretty well.

Anyone else interested in following along, or should I just keep it in PMs.

I'm not sure how many of you have heard my stuff so I will post a couple of links. Keep in mind these were for competitions that were tech based, no on any musical or compositional aspects (Though those things never hurt).

So, anyway... a few clips. They are wanktastic. Sorry.

    http://hatredalive.com/nicks/SlapFinal.mp3
http://hatredalive.com/nicks/Oolpcomp.mp3 (Old but not too bad)
    http://hatredalive.com/nicks/newslapmix.mp3 (Less wanky)

Anyway, I'm just curious if there is any interest or not.

    Edit: Added first video

    Video 2 is up, finally.

Here is some tab to go along with the videos.

I think it would be cool as hell to learn slap but my fingers don't seem to agree with me.

BMAL did show me a little when he was here but I haven't even got that right yet.

        I'm in.

Won't be able to incorporate it into any of our country sets, but I like to be a rounded bassist.

I can slap fairly well, but never have needed to. I was working with a hip hop guy in the studio and I ended up throwing some slap stuff on there. Really, it's the only time I've ever needed it.

That's not to say I dont like to do it... haha, I'd definitely be down.

I can slap pretty damn well, but I didn't learn it for it's usefulness. I mean, I try to be a well rounded bassist, but I learned slap just because it's fun--which is probably also why I practice it so much, and thus why I'm better at slapping and tapping than a fingerstyle.

I'll learn whatever you want to teach my friend. I am competent but I have no creativity as I am so limited in my slapping abilities.

I'd love to get some new tricks up my sleeve. I haven't really added to the database of slap licks in a long time. And after seeing both Marcus Miller and Maceo Parker at the Toronto Jazz Festival this past week I'm in the mood for a major slap upgrade.

Love those MP3s by the way!

I'm in. You should just post it on the forums so everyone can see and learn how to slap. Slapping is extremely fun. I've been trying to learn some Wooten stuff, but I'm not really that good yet.
