With over 800 presets, the PC3's synth architecture and sample set, KB3 organ emulation, extensive MIDI controller capabilities and world class effects, the PC3LE offers unprecedented value. It's going to change the game entirely for keyboards in its price range...", says Kurzweil national sales manager Jeff Dunmire.

Sorry, can you highlight the part where it says it's going to have the VA-1...my eyes must be going bad as I can't see it.

That's only the VAST engine probably, not the VA-1.

But drumpads?

Doubtful. From what the description has, it doesn't even have the 9 slider controls that the PC3 has now.

It's an inexpensive, scaled down PC3. Hence the "LE".

Sorry if I'm not overwhelmed by the PC3LE.

Nail on the head Goofball. I don't want LE anything. If I don't have the money for the full version, I'll wait and save.

From what I briefly saw today, it is about the same size as the PC361. I'll know more tomorrow when I can spend more time with it. There was only one there. Dave W. said that it had many of the features of the PC3 at a more favorable price point. How much more favorable I don't know, I'll ask tomorrow.

I'm not associated with Kurzweil, but when they say that it will have the same "synthesis" engine as the PC3 I can guarantee that'll include the "VA1" stuff. Those features are an integral part of the rest of the VAST engine -- when you pick an oscillator, for instance, there isn't anything that notifies you that you've picked a VA1 oscillator. They're just mixed in with everything else. Generally speaking, the VA1 parts of VAST refer more to the elimination of aliasing in the DSP-generated waveforms, filters modeled after various different kinds of gear, etc. But it's still all VAST, and since Kurzweil makes their own chips it wouldn't make sense to deactivate those features via software or do anything else to hobble a perfectly good DSP processor. My guess is that the LE will have one processor as opposed to two (I believe there are two main processor chips in the PC3, but I've only seen a couple of pics so I don't know for sure), which is why the polyphony is cut back to 64 instead of 128. They may also have cut back on how many effects units you have to play with (say 8 or 4 instead of 16). But the overall architecture is extremely unlikely to differ from the other PC-series instruments.

We'll know more as the weekend progresses, but those are my guesses as to how it's been "hobbled" (if that's even a good way to put it; I'll hazard a bet that the "LE" will have more processing power (and flexibility) than an Arturia Origin).

Hello,

For those who cannot afford a PC3 but want to play the same type of sounds, including Dynamic VAST sounds, or for those, probably not the ones that write in internet forums :-) , who do not want to edit every single parameter of a program and are happy taking a preset and just adjusting a few things with the knobs, the LE will be a very good option... sequencer, arpeggiators, setup capabilities, etc...

It'll be fun :D

Just my 2 cents,

Regards,

Fran
