JR Hexatone Pro - iPhone app by Noise.io and Jordan Rudess

Jordan Rudess is a terrible keyboardist who tries to focus on "technicality", while his music sounds like random notes that were just made up half-assed and don't even fit. It sounds like random jumbled crap, not music. Kind of like a crazy 3 year old pressing random keys on a keyboard.

I guess you haven't seen the JR Hexatone demos.

Take a look at one the demos at least. It's not what you think.

Oh wow..

So now you can't even start a topic with the name Rudess in it without people coming in and bashing him because they are jealous of his musical skills? Not a good musician? Have you heard his stuff outside of Dream Theater?

Yep.

And it sucked.

I'm not jealous of him at all, I just can't stand him. He thinks that surrounding himself with tons of gear makes up for his lack of musicality. It also doesn't help that he looks like a tall garden gnome.

I watched Keith Emerson play his modular Moog and OASYS on his last tour and I admire his ability without being jealous of either his skill or gear. Same is true of any number of other keyboardists, just not Rudess. Rudess should get a job as a marketing rep for a synth company, he'd be a better salesperson than a musician.

And yeah, I've heard his stuff outside of Dream Theater and Fuzzball24 is right, it sucks.

I really don't like Dream Theater or any video I've ever seen of Ruddess either. Not saying he doesn't have "technical" skills, but it's baaaadddd.... It is a shame he seems to ride off endorsement deals for everything. (Oooh, new thing, pay JR to play it!)

Anyway, this app? The problem with it is the problem with most iPhone apps -- it's not something that you can jam with, it seems like something you /work/ on. Bebot is still great, someone should take that up to 11.

But how often do I really play with sound apps on my phone? Not ever, really.

That's the problem with iPhone/iPod touch music apps, they aren't really practical and are just an interesting diversion or toy. As much as I like Eno's Bloom, for example, I can only play around with it for a few minutes before I'm bored with it.

I'm actually not a Dream Theater fan either. I respect Rudess because he supports people who are developing alternative music interfaces (Continuum, Harpejji, iPhone synths, etc.) and he has really good instructional videos on programming a Moog Little Phatty.

RjDj is a great iPhone app. It's free, and there are lots of different "scenes" for it which are practically apps in their own right. I think Hexatone will complement RjDj nicely.

I haven't tried the original Noise.io app - I know several people here use it and love it.

two things

1) using the iPhone as a music interface is new new new; the classics haven't come out yet

2) no-one has yet had time to master any of the 'instruments' like they've mastered, say, a piano keyboard

I think this is all very exciting stuff

He doesn't even take more gear with him on tour than most other keyboardists... Certainly not when he used the Kurz K2600.

And JR not having musical skills is just the biggest crap I've read this year. Ok, you don't like his music, but not musical?

Let's agree to disagree :)

it works for me. It works for a LOT of musicians.

To say JR has no talent or has a lack of musicality is simply trolling. I don't appreciate free form jazz but that doesn't mean they're not talented musicians. And since he was ranked one of the top keyboardists of all times, I would say you two are in the minority.

You don't have to like his music to appreciate his skill.

He plays fast. That's why people like him. Playing fast is cool, when you're music doesn't doesn't sound messy and pretentious.

Listen to his music closely, it doesn't fit at all, sounds like jumbled crap.

There's tons of artists I can apperciate even though I don't like their music. I don['t apperciate Jordan Rudess or Dream Theater because their music sucks.

i don't think it'd be so bad if there weren't so many of you people with your lips glued to his asshole (or your heads up Walter Carlos' skirt for that matter). i couldn't care less what this guy does, it's just a bit sad to see everyone fawn over him as if he's made some sort of impact on the world.

You're pretty cool. Do you have a newsletter we could subscribe to?

Honestly, I couldn't tell you one song that he or Dream Theater plays. I've seen a few of his videos when he demo's something, but that's about it. I just can't stand other people {censored}ting on something for no other reason other than trying to look different or cool, or using the elitist "you people".

The original poster put the thread up because he saw something that looked kind of neat to him, then we have {censored}heads come in here and start trolling with "Jordan Rudess sucks". Talk about sad to see...

But JR Hexatone Pro is a rhythm sequencer. Is it even possible to play this thing too fast?
