Members janek
Hello , i would like replace Yamaha MD 4 with HD - based unit.I need independent 4 outs and programmable volume for each channel.EQ etc is`nt needed couse tracks like additional vocals or drum loops are prerecorded. I use only two-3 tracks and independent track with metronome for drummer .Do you have any suggestions?regards
Members philbo
It sounds like a laptop with a 4 channel firewire interface would do the trick. If it were me, I'd just put the backing tracks on an audio CD and drag along a CD player with a remote.... But I lean toward simpler, reliable stuff.. and it wouldn't provide 4 tracks. Members where02190
Ipod, one track for vox, one for click. No one is going to notice except maybe you they are mono.
Members janek
I agree , simplier is better but i need to change volume of tracks depending on conditions on stage - you know - sometimes you have impression that something is too loud or not audible and you need to change volume of this "cue"track despite main mix console..... So you turn up whatever needs to be louder at the mixing console, the click or the vocals, same as you would if you ran a laptop or multitrack. Members UstadKhanAli
This is a sort of oddball suggestion, but would an old ADAT work? It'd be cheap, and give you 8 outputs.
Members zenchin
I'd also say a laptop and interface would be the way to go. It seems an adat wouldn't work well because if you have to move around to different songs, you'd have to stand there waiting for the tape to fast forward or rewind. These guys have this thing, but I'm not sure how you'd do it yourself- http://www.trycho.com/trychostore/DVDm--A-NEW-WAY-TO-PLAY--W37C2.aspx

That's the only guy in the band that I need to be totally reliable,... I can ditch backupsingers, drummers, guitarplayers, drummers, bassplayers, roadies, groupies who can't suck and femalesingers who do suck but I need to rely on my soundguy!!! If you can't trust him fire the dude and get a good one. I would split the wages 50/50 between the band and the soundguy just to get a killer engineer at my gig. Why? Set the levels as you need when you mix the tracks BEFORE you dump them to the ipod if it's automated level changes you want.
