Do any of you try like me and pack as much as you can on a rack?

I actually hang more than this off the rack and sometimes it's just a swayin'. The funny thing is that it's just one of those gibraltar road racks with the one bent bar and the two gimpy little side wings. I currently am hanging a 10x10 mapex orion birch, a 12x10 Sonor phonic, a 13x11 Sonor phonic, a 15x12 Ludwig 6ply classic, hanging a 15x14 6 ply Ludwig floor, using a 16x16 Sonor phonic floor, Ludwig 24x16 6 ply Bass, (not in picture due to space constraints- 24x14 Sonor Phonic bass, 18x16 Ludwig floor placed to the left of hat, 14x5 Ludwig Tequila Sunrise acrylic snare, )

22" Paiste 70's 2002 ride, Sabian AAXplosion 16" crash, 17" Zildjian A custom crash, 18" Zildjian A medium, 18" Zildjian A medium-thin, 16" 70's Zildjian A crash, 15" 70's Zildjian A crash, and now I gotta figure out where to stick the new 19 or 20" A custom Zildjian when I find one. come Christmas I'll get sick of the swaying tree configuration and go back to the usual 1 up 2 down. But you gotta change it up every few months just to keep it fresh.

By the way, how do you like my "Heinz 57 kit"?, all different makes but the same color.

Cool, I just wondered if everyone more or less tried to maximize the amount of items that go on your racks. I have become quite adept at the art of counterbalancing to get myself feeling confident the whole "kit and caboodle" won't come toppling over.

Actually it's quite stable, considering how heavy the stuff is that I am mounting on one of those Road Racks. I often put a black bag of sand over each rack's foot bar and it blends easy and keep's it put.

Speaking of Animal as an odd muffling device, what are some odd things you guys have used in the past to muffle a drum. I have cotton balls inside my bigger 15"+ drums. I got each drum tuned up and started inserting cotton balls into the air vent one by one until I got it where I wanted it. They bounce around in there, and touch the reso head lightly.

My house kit is on a rack, but it's only a 5-pc. The rack was what they bought before I got here, so we use it, but I actually feel like there's not enough on it. I think you only need a rack when you DO have a lot to hang on it. Our kit only has 3 toms and 2 cymbals coming off the rack.

I have everything on my rack (5 toms (10"-18"), 2 rides, 3 sets of hats, 4 crashes, 3 chinas, a splash and kang) and it doesn't sway too much. Granted, my rack is bigger than yours, five legs not two. You may be close to the max with the set up you posted.

I use my rack for my rotos' crashes and the occasional cowbell. Here is an old photo, but it shows the max layout pretty well.

...and this one shows how the rotos are attached to the rack.

enjoy, Bob.

Cool setup, I wish I still had my roto's. When I went off to join the navy, my mother in her infinite wisdom, and constant craving for space, sold my whole drumkit , I mean the whole shebang, (10 cymbals, tons of boom stands, 6 piece yamaha rock tour custom, pedals, throne, cases, sticks, brushes, extra heads, EVERYTHING!!!) for the tidy sum of 500 dollars. I didn't speak to her or my father for 4 years. Now that I am remembering that event (which I haven't thought about for years) I don't think she's getting a Christmas card this year.

It worked out better in the end, as I now have the "set of my dreams" and if I had kept them, I would probably still be playing them. It forced me to get my {censored} together and get a better set. Still , I was choked when I got home to beat on the drums from boot camp, and she was like "drums?.....drums..... hmmm......I don't know where I put those. Hmmm......"

At that point , I knew something smelled like rotten fish. She actually had the gall to try to pretend she hadn't seen any drums. She had only complained of the noise for 6 years daily before I left.
