Members polarnewfie
I actually hang more than this off the rack and sometimes it's just a swayin'. The funny thing is that it's just one of those gibraltar road racks with the one bent bar and the two gimpy little side wings. I currently am hanging a 10x10 mapex orion birch, a 12x10 Sonor phonic, a 13x11 Sonor phonic, a 15x12 Ludwig 6ply classic, hanging a 15x14 6 ply Ludwig floor, using a 16x16 Sonor phonic floor, Ludwig 24x16 6 ply Bass, (not in picture due to space constraints- 24x14 Sonor Phonic bass, 18x16 Ludwig floor placed to the left of hat, 14x5 Ludwig Tequila Sunrise acrylic snare, ) 22" Paiste 70's 2002 ride, Sabian AAXplosion 16" crash, 17" Zildjian A custom crash, 18" Zildjian A medium, 18" Zildjian A medium-thin, 16" 70's Zildjian A crash, 15" 70's Zildjian A crash, and now I gotta figure out where to stick the new 19 or 20" A custom Zildjian when I find one. come Christmas I'll get sick of the swaying tree configuration and go back to the usual 1 up 2 down. But you gotta change it up every few months just to keep it fresh. By the way, how do you like my "Heinz 57 kit"?, all different makes but the same color. Members Thomas G
Nice set-up there. I don't use a rack, so I can't answer that question, but I wanted to say that. And I approve of the use of Animal as a muffling device.

Members polarnewfie
Thanks, the drums all actually blend seamlessly sound wise, and not only does animal give just the right amount of muffling, he dances along with the kick drum beat. Get lots of comments about him when I play in public.
Members manoeuver
nope.. dig the drums mix-up though.
Members marko46
I used to, but not now so much. I hate the "swaying", so I make sure it's not so loaded I can't level it. I use a Mapex double stand on my right for my 19" crash/ride and voodoo china
Members 1001gear
Two toms and 5 cymbals on a 39" bar. I use the kick drum as the right leg.I win.
Members Zeromus-X
My "rack" is only ~2.5 feet wide and holds a floor tom (converted to hanging), ride, crash, china, and a sampler... does that count for anything?
Members polarnewfie
Cool, I just wondered if everyone more or less tried to maximize the amount of items that go on your racks. I have become quite adept at the art of counterbalancing to get myself feeling confident the whole "kit and caboodle" won't come toppling over. Actually it's quite stable, considering how heavy the stuff is that I am mounting on one of those Road Racks. I often put a black bag of sand over each rack's foot bar and it blends easy and keep's it put. Speaking of Animal as an odd muffling device, what are some odd things you guys have used in the past to muffle a drum. I have cotton balls inside my bigger 15"+ drums. I got each drum tuned up and started inserting cotton balls into the air vent one by one until I got it where I wanted it. They bounce around in there, and touch the reso head lightly. Members lossforgain
My house kit is on a rack, but it's only a 5-pc. The rack was what they bought before I got here, so we use it, but I actually feel like there's not enough on it. I think you only need a rack when you DO have a lot to hang on it. Our kit only has 3 toms and 2 cymbals coming off the rack.
Members Majoria
I use a PDP rack and love it. I have 3 rack toms, 2 crash, 2 splash, 1 ride, 1 china, 1 jam block, and a tray on it. Used to have my aux snare on it but it fits better on my hi-hat stand.
Members WhiplashBand
I've been accused of having too much stuff... 3 toms and 11 cymbals off of 3 sides... eh, I dunno... And my ICON is strong enough for my fat ass to stand on it.... METAL!!
Members SYMBOLIC
I have everything on my rack (5 toms (10"-18"), 2 rides, 3 sets of hats, 4 crashes, 3 chinas, a splash and kang) and it doesn't sway too much. Granted, my rack is bigger than yours, five legs not two. You may be close to the max with the set up you posted.

Members rfdias
I use my rack for my rotos' crashes and the occasional cowbell. Here is an old photo, but it shows the max layout pretty well. ...and this one shows how the rotos are attached to the rack. enjoy, Bob.

When I went off to join the navy, my mother in her infinite wisdom, and constant craving for space, sold my whole drumkit , I mean the whole shebang, (10 cymbals, tons of boom stands, 6 piece yamaha rock tour custom, pedals, throne, cases, sticks, brushes, extra heads, EVERYTHING!!!) for the tidy sum of 500 dollars. I didn't speak to her or my father for 4 years. Now that I am remembering that event (which I haven't thought about for years) I don't think she's getting a Christmas card this year. Members polarnewfie
It worked out better in the end, as I now have the "set of my dreams" and if I had kept them, I would probably still be playing them. It forced me to get my {censored} together and get a better set. Still , I was choked when I got home to beat on the drums from boot camp, and she was like "drums?.....drums..... hmmm......I don't know where I put those. Hmmm......" At that point , I knew something smelled like rotten fish. She actually had the gall to try to pretend she hadn't seen any drums. She had only complained of the noise for 6 years daily before I left.
