Members johnrobbsmusic
Hey Everyone, I haven't been on here much since I started College BUT these last two weeks I've been working on a really cool project that I finished last night wanted to share with you guys. As some of you know, Vaughncraft, the drum shell company, is located down the block from me and about 6 years ago, they were throwing out a bunch of shell scraps that were all about 1/4-1/2" tall by 14" diameter and I took them just cus I thought they were cool..long story short, I was looking at them and decided to try and build a snare shell from them. Here's what the shell looked like after I glued the rings together and sanded down the uneven edges from the outside (not all the rings were round) I finished it with low gloss tung oil and sanded it from 80 grit up to 1500. I cut the bearing edge on my cousins router table. and then here's the finished product The shell is 3.25"x14" and I used a Gibraltar Deluxe Piccolo Throw off/butt end, Aquarian Texture Coated Power dot and Classic Clear Snare Bottom, and PureSound Equalizer 12 strand wires. It hast a very dry and loud crack and very little sustain. I love it Cheers!

I showed it to the percussion teacher at Baker and he thought it was really cool and suggested that I use it w/the jazz band at our Christmas Candlelight Vespers performance
