Members Mamma Cat
Being relaxed and feeling totally at home with what you do - both your music and being on stage. It's the basis of everything. When you feel natural on stage, it shows and then you can get away with pretty much anything - being ugly, missing a note here and there, forgetting lyrics. The crowd wants to be entertained, and no matter how good you are, if you're shy and not relaxed, it will show and people won't have any fun. Members scalingwallofso
Passion, good posture (body, hands, face), dressing the way you'd like to be perceived, and some good acting. Members EightString
Thanks everyone. 8, do you have an opinion you would care to share? Well, the music/singing has to be appealing to me, that's a given. But beyond that, I always like the ones who are comfortable being themselves with the audience. That "genuine" quality can really connect with people, and if I feel like the front-person is comfortable, it makes ME feel comfortable.

This isn't the case if it ever were.FWIW "ugly" people have tons of personality. 1st you need to be a young and vibrant piece of a$$.This supercedes talent.Talent isn't even 2nd, it's marketability/connecting with your audience.Talent is a by-product in this day and age... We're not talking about what sells, but what makes a good frontman, be it in Madison Square Garden or your local pub, so amrketability is not really an issue here. Also, if being ugly gets in the way, who do you explain Susan Boyle? Or Mick Jagger, who, aside from being ugly, isn't even a good singer? Looks can be improved, masked or whatever. The way you handle yourself on stage and how natural you feel in what you do - that's what keeps the crowd interested. Even if you don't like someone's music, they will earn your respect if they rule the stage.

Members nomad60
Whether I'm on as half of a duo, or fronting a 5-piece, I LOVE what I do, & it shows... the audience can tell that I'm having fun, and it's genuine. I guess that would be my short answer: be REAL.
Members stevieb
The difference between a GREAT frontman, and a PERFECT one: A GREAT frontman has all the attributes mentioned here. A PERFECT frontman has all those, AND knows his role and doesn't let his ego get in anybody's way.

Members YeahDoIt
See I don't have an answer. I watch videos of Frank Sinatra and Johnny Rotten / Sex Pistols and I think they are both good but they are very different. What if we turn the question around? What makes a bad frontman? I think boring, shy, mumbling, quiet, disinterested, doesn't know the songs, drunk or high - those things might turn me off.
