This came from ioffer, where the ebay people probably get their stock from. Some of the ioffer sellers seem to be claiming legitimacy because they're upfront about the instruments being fakes. This one has the two screw truss rod cover. Presumably it's a real photo of the copy if it says "Gibsun". In another listing there was a hilarious exchange between the seller and an incensed owner of a real Gibson whose photos the seller had nicked. The diamond is more of a giveaway, see how it doesn't quite line up?

They cost thousands, but no where near 100 thousand. Like under 10 I think. NOT movable like you are thinking. Lead time measured in portions of years. I think it is like 1.5 years or more now. Worth every penny that the machine, or the work, costs. Hey DC:thu: Way more than 10k USD man, don't know an exact figure but I would have thought in the region of 25-30k USD. Christ man, it's 6kUSD for a top grade bandsaw:D

I think the idea of local Plek clinics is compelling enough that even if it the transport simply took the system to a temporary rented space for a few days at a time, it could still be profitable. That would be the way to go, however build in the initial cost, plus a suitable vehicle and travel costs and could it ever be profitable?

I would think it could be made to work. By it's very nature, the "shock prevention" mechanism could render it unstable enough to be accurate. Indeed it could be transported and set up on a solid base, but I think even the shock absorption in a motor vehicle would mean that movement of the vehicle with people in it would make a nonsense of any precision. But you could write to PLEK and ask them:D

A DVD player doesn't work to a tolerance of Not over 630mm it doesn't, it also has an alogorithm to extrapolate whats gone before and what's coming ahead. The two machines are not comparable

OTOH, some laser equipment is surprisingly sturdy. After all, there are laser-guided bombs, DVD players made for automobiles, and so forth. None of those are meant to work at 0.01mm

I *am* talking about a PLEK machine itself, rather than a PLEK job. A friend of mine was thinking of buying one as an investment -- IOW, to actually do PLEK jobs for others. In addition to cost, I was also wondering whether the machinery or equipment could be made transportable -- could it be packed into a van or small truck? The idea was to travel to guitar shops or guitar shows, and do PLEK jobs on the spot. I would seriously think transporting that sort of equipment in a van would be the quickest way to totally fuck it. No piece of laser equipment would be happy being transported and I would imagine the setup of the machine would be highly specialist.
