  1. Ok, I assume you have the single/hum model, with the floyd. Going back to basics, and back to the infamous "tone wood" argument, poplar and maple tend to be on the brighter side. Also the single in the neck, and the all the metal in the Floyd, well, what can you expect?

Put a single coil sized hum in the neck, passive if possible. (If you have an EMG in it, it will have to be grounded.)

Maybe a different bridge pickup also.  SD JB perhaps? Go for something in the middle range of output. You can always get more metal tones by a pedal. Speaking of which, have you tried an EQ/Boost?

I've never bonded with EMG's in general. yeah, fine if you play metal, but if you need to play with tone, that ain't them get a nice set of passive pickups. Sell the EMG's, and you'll get back most of the money for the passives.

  2. Musically, it's not bad. Production wise...... there are issues. Guitar just seems to be buried behind the drums and reverb. in the B section, the guitars seem to fade in and out periodically. Might be the the download, but it's noticeable. And during the repeat of the A section. same thing. And in fact, all thru the song at various parts, there's fading.

  3. Between the pots, it's in the way, behind the tone pot, too far away, I agree with DM about a push/pull switch. Hell, you could have 2 push/pulls, (coil tap on one, and series parallel on the other.) and no one would suspect it would be capable of those kind of tones.

  4. Thank you guys! Yeah, the Ibanez was on the inexpensive side of life. And yes DM, you make a good point, but.... how can you kick this beauty to the curb? Made by Ibanez for the Canadian market, and has a telecaster GUITAR neck pickup, with the tele 3 screw plate, as the pickup for a bass? I mean, wood, maple, tortoise shell, and chrome. I mean CHROME!!!! (And cheap too! With a hardcase. Whispers.... like 50 bucks cheap.)

I have a random guitar cable I bought off ebay in like 2014 but barely used it. I kept it in a box of music stuff and it's been tossed around a lot but not abused or anything. I just picked up guitar again and the cable worked fine for a few sessions then it stopped working unless in a very particular position type thing. I just soldered new Switchcraft plugs on both ends and my solder job seems fine but it's still doing this problem. So I'm guessing somewhere along the inside it some how broke or something? Or should I try re soldering the plugs?

I have Mogami W2524 cable arriving tomorrow plus two more Switchcraft plugs which will be my main cable and I want one for backup so I might just order a $ 7one off eBay but am wondering about this one.

    AND.....?

Looking at an explorer (ghost?) model in a couple days for $350. Just wondering if they’re quality builds. Anyone know the country they’re made or if the materials are good?

If it's an older one, made in Korea. Modern, maybe Korea, maybe China. Don't let MIC cloud your judgement. Agiles are GREAT guitars!

  7. Saw this in a, surprise, pawn shop, and couldn't say no. Even Mrs. Penguin, who knows I don't play bass much now-a-days, told me to get it.

She's an Ibanez SR250. Basswood, maple, with a "rosewoodish" fret board,34" scale, and 24 frets. I have become a sucker for pearl finishes, and this one is flawless. Issues where it needed a new battery, had to tighten a loose pot, and needed to drop the pickups a bit. Otherwise she was perfect out of the store.

Now the question is: is it a keeper, or do I flip it? Plays great, sounds great, the 3 band EQ really works well, and it feels real nice in the hands and in the lap. However, arthritis sucks, the left hand KNOWS the drill, but the right hand.... I lost a LOT of my technique, and doubtful I will be getting it back, nor do any gigs requiring bass playing. And if I do, I have a couple of 30" scale basses, and a standard 34 ancient P bass copy. We'll see what happens. Enjoy all!

  8. Are you looking for JUST a violin shaped bass? There's basically 3 brands to choose from: Hofner, Epiphone, and Rogue. (Sold thru musician's friend.) If just looking for a decent bass, anything Ibanez will be good. Don't know the UK pricing, but a used Ibanez SR series bass is a good choice.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've put a treble bleed ahead of the vol pot and/or on the ground after it. It's been a while since I had that one and I don't recall which or how. I do recall it made little difference if any.

Treble bleeds don't go to ground. It goes from the IN of the pot to the OUT of the same pot. And the only time you notice it, is when you turn down. (It keeps the high end from disappearing.)

Just received a used Boss ME-80 from eBay and it's in great condition but I've never owned a piece of gear that the power button doesn't click on/off, I think it's broken and want to confirm with anyone who owns this if the button should click because this one feels odd/spongy and I think sometimes it does sort of click, so I don't want it to become a problem. I can likely easily solder/replace it if the part is cheap but IDK if it's even available, so I'm either returning it or asking for a partial refund. I paid $266 after tax. thanks.

Here's the question: does it work the way it is? If so, then it's fine. if not, replace it.
