  1. Their designed for referencing aren't they I compare commercial CD's thru my monitors all the time for referencing my mix with my fave commercial CD's like Tom Petty's Full Moon River which is a great CD for comparing mixes with.
  2. I think Fletcher was talking about POD's direct in sound like crap, there is one amp simulator that I like a little which sounds nice on the PODs running thru a real tube amp I kinda like the POD.s clean sound with a touch of delay and chorus which aint to bad, nothing like a real Fender Princeton amp but the other Rectifier,Marshall type cab simulators are not even close to the real thing, I know I have a real Marshall with real tubes but. I have some kids who actually prefer the cheesy sounding rectifier sound over the real Marshall tube amp go figure I spent 2500$ for the amp and 75$ used POD and kids pick the cheapest thing I have for their main guitar sound. Guess it's kinda like a fashion statement with the Boogie sound.
  3. Why don't use that POD you have and mic the cab you'll need a A/B switch to pull it off but I bet between the both you could come up with a decent sound I do it a lot because I have a lot of kids that like how the POD sounds with a mic'ed out guitar cab. Another option is to use two mic combo. you can use what they call a M/S micing technique you can use a Ribbon mic since it's a figure 8 pattern and the SM57 and place the mics in a T shape you want the SM57 in the null of the Ribbon I bet then you have your pro guitar sound I do that sometimes myself.
  4. Exactly as Kenm said but with the drums if you can borrow a decent mixer Mackie ,Yamaha or a mixer that has decent enough pres in them and do a sub mix on the drums meaning you can mic out the whole kit ,hook up all the mics to the mixer then run the main L/R out of the mixer into your Mbox and walla you have your drums to. Good luck and have fun
  5. My question is how much SPL will it put out? because some people have annoying neighbors that will call the cops if its to loud.
  6. Most kiddie bands I record love the POD's for some reason I have 3 different kinds Line 6, J-station and of curse the infamous Behringer, I use them with a headphone amp which each member has a POD signal in their cans and a clean signal which they can't hear, the clean signal will be re-amped later on. The reason I do this way is because I get the whole band in one room with the drummer and then I can track the drummer with the whole band playing their tune without bleed issue from the real amps in my kind of small spare room/studio. Then when I 'm ready for mix down a lot of the guitar players that are using the POD's just for a scratch track insist that I leave it in and blend it in with the re-amped guitar which I do. So yea I say you can have the best of both worlds a real amp and a POD blended mix hell I believe I read some where they're were even commercial studio's using this techque guess that where I learned it .
  7. For the price of the CO2 they smoke every thing in that price range the Otava's are better choice but for budget can't go wrong with the CO2 I still have my pair just for backup mics.
  8. Do a goggle search about Bob Katz a 30 year veteran who has specific info. about mastering with a DAW sorry I don't know how to copy and paste web links.
  9. Exactly what kind of hollow body guitar do you play, could be from guitar pickups.
  10. Interesting topic, Rush had a law suit about the exact same topic because the mastering studio added there touch to it, that the wav files were just a giant square block compare to the original wav which had the peaks and valleys of dynamics think alot of the plugs that they have just don't work as good as the outboard gear. Alot of musician rely to heavy on loops and sequencers and just overdub way to many parts because they want that huge sound. So yea a lot of tunes now a days gets way over produced because everything is just a mouse click away.
  11. My final and most time consuming is EQing the final mix I already have plenty of reverb on most individual trax so adding more would be to much. Another thing is panning the mix so e.g. tom rolls pan that's probably my 2 final steps before mix down.
  12. Okay I did misunderstand your post I'm bad now I gotta be slapped around for awhile. And thanks for being patient with me sometimes I don't get it in my older age.
  13. Yea let me know where the link is and I'll compare it with 1073 pre and see how it stands up.
  14. Not me I don't care that much for plugs I use the real thing so far only plugs I ever been impressed with was Native for sythn. It's hard to beat the real thing but hey if it's free anything that's free can't be beat.
  15. Just goes to show sometimes knowledge is the key to getting a great recording without breaking the bank, Nice job you have my praise. Awhile back I posted about the Behringer ADA8000 micpre. and another poster had a Demo song uusing the Behringer micpre on his kit and all I can say is it sounded just as good as most pro gear without having to spend thousands to acheive a good Demo.
