  1. Who are you? The {censored} of Monte Cristo?
  2. And not the last. But y'know it's YOUR guitar, if you don't like the sound, you don't like the sound. It's easy enough to change them, and change 'em back ... Um, I really haven't read all the {censored}-storm posts ... so I'm not taking sides or anything ... the above is merely my own BS opinion. True, true, true. You guys know there's a waiting list for the BG Pure 90s. Hell, if the OP doesn't like them, he could probably sell them here and have his money back the next day!
  3. I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you Mr. Frodo!
  4. I told you they'd come out of the wood work, little hobbits rescuing their beloved Frodo!
  5. I'm having a tech put these in. Since the Duesenberg is a semi hollow and you say you are having good luck with this setup I might look into this. Were do I buy the electronics your talking about above? Sorry I don't know much about the pots and other electronics! I usually buy that kind of thing on Guitarpartsresources. Good prices, service and fast shipping. A lot of guys would recommend linear taper pots for the tone controls since they'll go from full dark to full bright with a small flick of the finger but I prefer the audio taper for more precise control. I do my own work but a good tech is a great option when it comes to semihollows. I don't mind working on them and once you get the hang of it, it's not difficult but if you're not sure, a tech is the way to go. One last thing, P90 are very sensitive to height adjustment, so you'll have to fool around with that to find your sweet spot. I'd love to hear how it works out for you once you get it done.
  6. what would be the tonal difference with, say, 300K pots and .022 orange drop? Don't know. I'd guess a bit darker and maybe a good solution if you thought the pups were a bit too bright. I recommended the 500k and 022 Orange drops because that's what I used on my semihollow and got great results. Loved using the audio taper too, nice even change along the pot's entire range and huge tone range.
  7. I have always wanted a guitar with p-90s so I think I might put a pair in my Duesenberg. People in the forum have convinced me to go with a little higher quality so I think BG sounds like a good choice. Is the BG P-90 humbucker size about as true to a P-90 sound your gonna get in a Humbucker sized P-90 or should I look at some other options? Yes. The Pure 90 is true to the P90 sound. Essentially, they are P90s with the ends cut off. Bryan will wind them to meet your tone needs. Best pups I've ever played. Use 500k Ohm audio taper brass shaft pots for both volume and tone controls along with 022 caps.
  8. i think we, as a group need to pick one forum, that everyone can easily access, to hang at...even our lil group is splintered
  9. Like I said it's hilarious. The only thing that sucks is that I thought I had a whole bunch of replies to my question and half of them where a fight. I'd hate to see you guys in traffic! You're right! Well, at least I tried to give you an answer before bickering! I drive an SUV.
  10. This place is turning into dickhead central. Go read the Duesenberg pickup thread. I'm gonna have to find another hangout. I see now why all the good members split. EG Elias, aren't you one of the "good" and "cool" members?!? You badmouth HC constantly, here and in every other forums, even though you have 1.0 back and you can again post from your beloved princess phone. You say everything is screwed up, yet you do nothing to improve it. Whenever some one disagrees with you, you call on your buddies to defend you on the thread. You're never very rude, just sneaky as hell and low handed. Every other thread you promise to leave but don't. Dude, just leave. No one will care. Contrary to what you believe, Harmony Central will miraculously survive without you. Listen! I think I hear your disciples running up the hall and coming to your rescue!
  11. I can't get these things to sound good especially when playing chords with distortion. It just doesn't sound right, and although I'm not a great player I have two other guitars and the pickups sound great playing the same stuff. Those pickups are Samarian Cobalt Noisless and Burstbucker Pros, so they are not cheap, But you would think a $1,500 guitar would have good pickups. Does anyone else hear what I am hearing from these pickups? Is it crazy to swap them out for GFS Dream 180s? I gotta go cheap I'm poor these days plus the gold pearl will look increbible on the Starplayer outlaw which has mock alligator tolex with aged yellow binding around the whole thing. If anything it will be a real expensive decoration! I've never paid attention to Duesenberg guitars but I looked yours up and !!! For semihollows I always recommend BG Pure 90s (HB sized P90s), because they compliment the hollowbody sound so well. Much more articulate and clearer than humbuckers, plus they can get nasty well too. Extremely versatile pups. They aren't cheap but definitely much less than you would expect to pay for hand made pups of that caliber. Although I love it, you may or may not like the sound but there's an easy and cheap way to find out. You can order a set of Mean 90s from GFS. I think those are only $30 each. The sound and some qualities are "similar" to what the BG Pure 90s will give you... except the Pure 90s will give you TONS more of it! Your guitar only has to sound the way you want it to and you should use whatever pickups give you the tone you're after. GFS would be a relatively inexpensive way to check out different tones. We all have different tastes but the only one you're obligated to satisfy is your own.
  12. y'know...Hitler said and did some pretty nasty things, but he looked like a funny little fella, just from outward appearances, not at all dangerous just sayin' True that and you never know, this gentleman here might be highly educated and a sweetheart. Who are we to judge?
  13. people who say "tats" are struggling to fit in they think it males them sound cool By all means, lets not judge people by how they look.... but I guess laying into them because of how they talk or write is ok.
  14. No you are -- as I stated I have no issues what so ever with tattoos, however what he was stating is scientific fact about sterotyping. Take some psychology to understand this, now some of his judgemental views thrown in, yeah its bull{censored}, but the entire thing about stereotyping is is correct. We all stereotype in some way or another, whether its gender, race, religion, dress, style, etc. It helps us make sense of a complex world easier. Agreed. No matter what we may think as individuals, society in general establishes certain parameters. What is abnormal? It's what falls outside of the medium curve set by the majority of society in general. If your happy with it fine, but you must also accept society's view but the more someone says "{censored} everyone and what they may think", the more they call attention to themselves. At times, we strive so hard to be individualistic, that we end up looking like everyone else. Although they are sometimes looked upon as heroes in their small circle of friends, the are complete assholes to the rest of the world. It's easier to be "cool" in a small group of similar minded individuals, then socially acceptable with a larger group. Crying out "{censored} the world" is in reality a cop out. In a job like aenemated has, where most work is done alone, it works out well for him and he seems to be very successful at it but as whatever you do for a living brings you in contact with more people, the more you will have to be aware of the interaction with them and what they think. We will always be judged by those around us... how we look, drive, dress, what music we listen to, our education... etc. No matter how much we flip our fingers at them, nothing will change, we will always be judged, even by those who say they don't judge a book by its cover. It's just human nature.
  15. Ya know man, I was trying to be civil in my response to you, but let me just say, {censored} YOU , you closeminded, judgemental asshole. Post a picture of yourself, let's see what we can find about you that we don't like and discuss it.Different strokes and all that man. I see people everyday that look different from me and I accept them for who they are and don't pre judge them. If you didn't like people with ink , you shouldn't have come in this thread you prejudiced {censored}. Really? I {censored}ing hate tattoos and think they look like {censored} but I've met some very cool people with tattoos and that hasn't stood in the way of us becoming good friends. They aren't prejudiced toward me because I don't like the ink and I'm not prejudiced toward them because they do. We bust each others balls about it like friends do. It's a two way street man and there has to be respect on both sides.
  16. I'm not sure if I'd have enough paint to start over and if that's the case I don't wanna put any more money into it. Will spot painting look that bad? The only time I sanded was after the first 2 sand and sealer coats and the next two coats of sand and sealer, after the primer, and eventually after all the color is on. The scratches aren't too bad. I'm getting all the dents out now with #220 and then gotta hit it with #320 (maybe lighter?) sandpaper before starting with the sand and sealer again. I would use at least #600 paper before applying paint. Remember... the smoother the base, the smoother the paint will turn out.
  17. cool. I'll snap some pics tomorrow. Go for it. We'll look forward to the pics.
  18. You can spot paint since you should be sanding between every few coats anyway. If you do that and get full even coverage with the paint you have, great. If not, you're going to need another can, even if you don't use it all.
  19. Hmm...really not sure. Not sure if I have enough paint to do it again. I'll have to decide tomorrow. How many color coats of nitro normally go on a guitar? It all depends. I laid 20-24 coats on my Strat, sanding between every few coats. I only used a can and a half of paint for the whole process.
  20. You mean sand down to bare wood again to sand out the dents? Yes sir, that's what I would do but it's your guitar and decision. All that's really important though is that you're happy with it. I think you've done a lot of hard work on it and with a bit more, it'll turn out perfect. Again though, it's only my opinion.
  21. I think you're doing a good job and learning al ot along the way. You haven't screwed anything up. All yoyu need to do is sand some more. Keep in mind that your finish will only be as good as the prep work before it. I wouldn't fill thos dings with putty. I'd rather sand them out. Keep up the good work.
  22. Gorgeous and elegant! Congratulations on your beautiful new Strat!
