  1. OK don't have a lot of time tonight but I snapped a couple of quick pics... Thanks again for turning me on to the deal- never thought I would do a 4-hour round trip for a guitar... It was defintely an experience. I got there and the guy was living over a garage with a net for a door. The place was pretty much empty except for his gear. The story behind it is that his parents got it for him when he was 15 and he played it everyday since then and was a musician by trade. He had recently gotten an SRV Strat and although he knew he could get more for the guitar, he felt he had gotten his money out of it and he knew the condition was rough. This is far and away one of the coolest Strats I have ever played or even seen. I am a Les Paul guy, but this one may have to stay in my stable as it is growing on me the more I work on it.
  2. Poidh I will put up a few quick pics tonight. The frets ended up being pretty worn, so I did a fret dress, recrown, and level on it over the last couple of nights and I just reassembled it late last night. Also, not to rub it in, but the guy offered me $40 off on the phone since I had to drive so far
  3. Back... I ended up getting it. Condition is rough as this was a daily player and gigged, but the playability is good and the guitar is complete and structurally solid. Will work on it some over the next few days and get some pics up. Thanks again for the heads up... I have wanted to try out one of these for years and now I own one!
  4. Driving 2 hours to meet the guy now. Will keep you posted. Thanks!
  5. I know it is not going to be popular, but the first thing I thought of was a lot of the "boo-teek" pedals, especially Tube Screamer-alikes, but pretty much anything hand-painted:poke: Any guitar where you pay a crazy premium for non-functional parts (pretty wood, binding around body and headstock, fancy inlays). Most (but not all) signature guitars, especially when they are 90%+ the same as regular production guitars. Any guitar where you pay a premium for someone to beat it up and make it look old, or even worse, beat up like a famous guitar. The worst for me: The Fender Custom Shop SRV replicas of Blackie, SRV #1 and Lenny, EVH's Frankenstrat, etc. at 20K+...
  6. I listened to them until I was old enough to realize that their awful attempts at evangelism were no less of a gimmick than guys tapping out scale runs. Stryper is a case study of why good songwriters write rock songs about Christianity and bad songwriters write Christian rock. Even as arguably their biggest fan here, I can see your side of this. I have, at times, questioned their sincerity and dedication to the message (especially during the Against The Law era and with their recent cover album) and I will be the first to admit that some of their lyrics are cringeworthy. I have to say, though, that taking the stand that they did at the time they did it undoubtedly HURT them in terms of popularity. In terms of raw talent, they were one of the best of the Hair Metal era, yet they got nowhere near the airplay of less talented bands starting out because of their lyrics. They were in a no-man's land... Secular radio would not play them, Christian record stores would not carry them. It took the crossover hit (and one of my LEAST favorite of their songs) "Honestly" to put them on the map. I was in the same state of despair as others have mentioned. I was dabbling in drugs and Satanism and headed on a path to destruction. Say what you will, but there is no doubt that I was being influenced by culture including the lyrics of the music I was listening to, and Stryper and other "White Metal" bands that followed allowed me to enjoy the style of music I loved without being innundated with lyrics glorifying Satan and the carnal pleasures of this world. They changed my life forever and helped shape my eternity, so I can look past some of their more insipid lyrics and the cheese factor of their stage presence to be a fan of their music and the guys in general, who have always been some of the nicest and most humble rock stars you could meet.
  7. Oz Fox= Awesome. The Yellow and Black attack was way ahead of its time. Wonder if Sweet is still with Boston? I saw him on That Metal Show and he didnt mention Boston. He is not- quit them about a month back to focus on Stryper.
  8. I have seen them live 6 times, starting with the Soldiers Under Command tour. I also have met the guys multiple times, including going to the movies with them back in the 80's Was in a band that did several of their more rocking songs back in the early 90's. Did the Meet and Greet last tour in Asheville, was a lot of fun. I took my then 11 year-old son and he had a blast. I have an autographed guitar and 6 autographed albums hanging on my wall. I also have about a dozen other autographed items (CDs, bibles, etc.) and my son has an autographed guitar as well. So yeah, I am a fan.
  9. I am awaiting 1 now My bud has been bugging me to sell him my Swede since I got it over a year ago. Finally I broke down and let him take it and got my project Ibby I sold him back and a Squier 51' which I sold and bought an MIA Strat and was going to buy a SG or LP of some sort but I couldn't IMO pass up a brand new 1 for $550. My new Strat comes today and the Charvel should be here Saturday or Monday & I am going to decide which I like better and trade 1 for a SG or LP maybe $550?!? WHERE?!?
  10. I have a Gothic and a Studio Lite- except for the cosmetics, every bit the equal of every Classic/Standard I have played... and if you get models like these with Grovers and ebony fretboards, honestly to me they are functionally right up there with the Customs I have not been able to bond with the Fadeds... partly because of the finish and partly because I am not a big Burstbucker fan.
  11. I will always entertain offers for Peavey Generation EX ACM's. Offers to sell you one, or offers to buy one from you
  12. Interested in Fender Telecaster Deluxe Blackout in absolutlely brand new condition for $450 shipped? If so, will get together actual pics...
  13. Not sure if you were serious, but you are going to probably have problems tuning a 7/8 scale guitar down to drop C. It almost certainly won't intonate, and the strings will be very floppy. Otherwise, I think it is pretty darn cool myself... how much do they run and is there any info on manufacturer? N/M found it... have not heard of Encore as a maker. Looks like they are about $140, which is a little more than I would pay as a novelty.
  14. Got some knobs from Lightnin8281 and they were as advertised and shipped quickly!

  21. Current as of 7:41PM 06Oct2009 You know that you've been doing this list a longtime when you know who is already on there before you even look for the name.
