Members angry again2
I've got a GFS crunchy rail in my ltd guitar and it's definately a high gain pickup but it's not versatile enough in my opinion to sound good playing pearl jam, rush, ac/dc, etc. Also is your SG mahogony? I tried the crunchy rail in my mahogony RGA121 Ibanez and hated it. Way too muddy. In my opinion, i would go with the Duncan JB/Jazz combination. The JB is a pretty hot pickup and can do both metal and rock. dave Mustaine used to use them before he came out with his signature pups.

Members whiteop
I think A7X, Petrucci, and Metallica all play different pickups. If you're looking for something versatile than can cover most of that stuff then the three I mentioned above are a good start.Consider also:Dimarzio Drop SonicDimarzio BreedBG HellabuckerDuncan Custom CustomBareknuckle Miracle ManMotor City Afwayu I use the Breeds. They're good for both clean and distortion tones.

Members hellion_213
I have used GFS Crunchy Rails (and it's going back in my build guitar), and recommend it for your bridge anyway. Ultimately I recommend EMG 81/81 or 81/85, but to save money, Crunchy Rails sound Killer. Never tried that Scott Ian Duncan, but it's specs are freaking amazing! Now I'm GASsing for one of those! Members AluminumFalcon
The Dimarzio Evo bridge/PAF Pro neck combo has always worked well for me for higher gain music.
