I don't know who's worse in this thread, the people who won't acknowledge that the confederate battle flag is considered a racist symbol by many in the US, or the people who won't quit tilting at windmills about it....

Thats funny, I find these the most racist symbols in America today:

I dig it! I wish I had the balls to play it.

To me it says, " I have a rebellious spirit" or "I am proud of my southern heritage" (or I am dating my cousin!)

Even then, I must admit I was surprised when I went to the fair and at the 4-H area, there was a black rodeo guy with one of those bull rider hubcap belt buckles displaying a 4"x6" rebel flag...

I grew tired of educating small minded people armed with fragments of trivia but lack of understanding that symbols only have the power given to them by the observer.

I don't see the problem with flying a rebel flag. It can mean you're rebellious about many things and doesn't mean you're a Klan member or that you hate anyone and anyone that thinks that just because of the flag is a moron. It's one of the most beautiful symbols ever created. One hundred and forty some odd years ago it represented states that among other things supported slavery, which was unfortunate. Yet during the civil war, one hell of a lot white lives were taken to get slavery abolished. I don't recall either side lining up 6 million black people and sending them to the gas chamber like the NAZIs did the Jewish. I had family on both sides of that war and I'm a veteran who served to protect the freedoms of this country and if want to display a rebel flag that's my right.

Flags look great on guitars and the south has great guitar players so the southern cross flag looks great on guitars. As far as it representing slavery. not to sound like a history lesson, the flag that flew on the ship that brought the slaves to America was not the confederate flag, the flag that flew over the countries of the African kings that sold thier people into slavery was not the confederate flag. Yes white supremacist do fly the confederate flag, and they are evil but that does not mean that the flag represents evil. The north did not have a as great as a need for slave labor, it was easy for them to want to stop it ,and the confederacy freed the slaves in 1863. Many Jews served and were high officials and solders under the confederate flag .I think that covers most of the prior points

The communist ideology didn't murder a single person; a bunch of people who used the lure of "communism" to get people to follow them into becoming a socialist, fascist country killed people. Communism is what's described in Marx's writings, and there's never been anything like that around in history.

This line of thinking is...:bor:

Having said that, just because a redneck biggot flies old glory on the back window of his rig, that doesn't make the American flag a racist symbol...same goes for the confederate flag. Since I have said that I suppose that makes me Don Quixote. :freak:

Patriotism=fail

When I hit the streets back in 81

Found a heart in the gutter and a poets crown

I felt barbed wire kisses and icicle tears

Where have I been for all these years?

I saw political intrigue, political lies

Gonna wipe those smiles of self-satisfaction from their eyes

I will wear your white feather I will carry your white flag

I will swear I have no nation but Im proud to own my heart

I will wear your white feather I will carry your white flag

I will swear I have no nation but Im proud to own my heart

My heart, this is my heart

We dont need no uniforms, we have no disguise

Divided we stand, together well rise

We will wear your white feather

All the children

We will carry your white flag

We will swear we have no nations

Beirut children

But were proud to own our hearts

Jeruzalem children

We will wear your white feather

Tokio children

We will carry your white flag

Moscow children

We will swear we have no nations

Washington children

But were proud to own our hearts

Munich children

These are our hearts

Chicago children

These are our hearts

Cairo children

You cant take away our hearts ...

You cant steal our hearts away

I cant walk away I cant walk away

No more, no more, no more, no more...

You're not taking into account that for many rock musicians politics is yet another way to "live the lifestyle", being on the PC left is like having "Gibson" on your headstock. Being "disgusted" at symbols of a distant war you've never learned much about is not only completely riskless and safe, but also stylish and, as the editors of Rolling Stone will gladly tell you, very independent thinking.

Worrying about a group like La Raza that will actually try to ruin your life for disagreeing with them and increases by thousands of members a year is not the domain of your average wannabe rocker guy, it's the domain of a "hateful loser who thinks too much". You just have to remember what forum your on and how monkey-see-monkey-do humans are in regards to their sub-culture... is all I'm saying.

If this is offensive, it is because you want it to be. I have played hundreds of gigs with it, and keep getting asked to come back.

No one is saying there isn't an audience that your guitar appeals to.

As to the racist connotations of the Battle Flag, people arguing that the CSA and the War Between the States wasn't about slavery or racism are missing the point entirely. The racist connotations of the Battle Flag are not from 1860-65. They're from after. Particularly the pro-segregation movement of the 1940's-'50's. If people want to remember the Confederacy as part of their history or culture the actual Stars and Bars is a simple expedient without the negative connotations.

WELL SAID!

The post-Civil War love for the Confederate flag was from the racists/segregationists wanting the "meddlesome yankees" to stay out of the south's (extremely vitriolic racist) business--the business of keeping blacks totally suppressed.

Anyone who says the Confederate flag is not a symbol of racism is either 100% ignorant or 100% lying to themselves.

The modern attempt to recast that flag as simply a "rebel" symbol is complete foolishness. That flag flew for ONE SINGLE REASON: to establish a new federal government based on the right to own slaves. If your teacher ever said anything else, they lied to you.

it represents history. nothing more, nothing less. if you think it's rascist, YOU may be the rascist

the history of the Antebellum south. Slavery wasnt part of the antebellum south. it WAS the antebellum south, just about everyone's houses, fortunes, and lives where built because of slavery. i dont think people who fly the flag are racist, Dimebag and Zakk certainly aren't . i just dont think its something to be proud of

Well, you're absolutely right that the gov't system isn't to blame. If so, then Capitalism/Democracy as systems must take blame for the extermination of native Americans and enslavery of the Africans.

But I must add that Marx did envision the communist takeover being violent. The upper class would be destroyed, as would anyone in the middle class who didn't join the Proletariat. Maybe Marx didn't really mean killing anybody, but realistically how else could that have happened?

I'm fairly convinced that Zakk uses the flag because he thinks it will make him more money than if he didn't. Zakk is a total marketer. I doubt any fan really knows his true beliefs.
