Members F-bomb
Yesterday afternoon was a day for playing guitar. Mt wife and kid were out getting groceries and i had the house to myself so the guitar was turned up LOUD. I was really getting into it when I did a bend on the 12th fret on my D string. I heard a noise *EEEEERRR* *PIIINNG*. What the hell was that. I did the bend again and it sounded like the noise was coming from the nut. I bent all the strings to see if they all made this sound but it only comes from the D string and the G string if I really lay into it. Does this mean I need to replace my nut? I also recently went to thinner strings, could this be it? Any input would be apreciated
Members vcnyls
Sounds like the slots in your nut for the D and G strings are cut too narrow and the string is binding there when you bend. Odd that a problem like that would just start all of a sudden (would expect it from the begining with a new guitar if it was going to happen). Did you just change to a thicker string gague than you used to use? that might explain it...
Members ΨWindingΨ
A little graphic in the nut slot will get rid of that. Pencil led works fine too. I do that every time I change strings on my LP.

Members mrbrown49
Strings are definitely binding somewhere, nut and saddles are the two most likely issues. Or the ball ends are unraveling which I've had happen on a few occasions. Made similar pinging noises till it eventually let go.
