Members ColoradoFenderB
I recently picked up a 1990 Custom: Overall, I am very happy with this guitar. Looks beautiful and is extremely comfortable - it fits me. BUT, the pickups are not to my liking. The neck is way too muddy and bassy. The bridge is better, but not outstanding. After spending several different nights trying to dial in acceptable settings, I was able to find a sweet spot for the bridge. The neck is hopeless. Does anyone know which pickups were standard in 1990 Customs? Also, what pickups would you choose if you were going to replace these? The first thought that comes to mind is the safe bet, Classic 57/57+ set. But, I am sertainly open to some other options. What about the SD Slash set? Any others that make sense? FYI - I play mostly classic rock and classic hard rock.
Members PunkKitty
Contact Bryan at BG Pickups. Have him wind a set for you to your specs. It will cost you as much or less than a set of mass produced pickups. He offers discounts to forum members. PM him at norcal_git_r.

Members chadd
I had SD Alnico IIs in my goldtop when I bought it, didn't like them. Threw a 57/57+ combo in there and love it. Haven't heard the new SD slash set, but my Alnico IIs were the old style that he used.
Members cratz2
Pretty hard to go wrong with the 57/57 or the 57/57+ sets. Not sure which pickups they put in circa 1990, but I think most of the recent ones have the 500/496 set or the 490/498 set.
