Members ZeppelinPie792
I'm in the market for a Gibson SG Standard, but I want one that has the 60's slim neck. I have come across a 1996 model, but I am having trouble finding which profile the necks on the SG's had in those years. One source told me they used the 60's slim necks between 1982-2000, and 50's necks from 2000-current, but I can't find anything else that confirms any of this. So what say you, members of Harmony Central?
Members BeanoBoy
I'm on the other end, I'd like an SG with a 50s chunky neck. Can anyone steer both of us to the right model?

Members Dr. Scottie C
I had a 1997 SG Standard in Heritage Cherry.... and it was a baseball bat.... largest neck I've probably ever had on a guitar.
Members oryan
I'm pretty sure the SG standard came with chunky necks since the 90's. I could be wrong, but I had a '96 and later a '02 and both had fat necks.

Members Shenaniganizer
SG Standards have pretty chunky necks, IMO. I love it.
Members AUDIOSLAVE
If you want a slim neck a '61 RI is a good choice
Members docjeffrey
Do you think that fatter necks help add stability given the inherent design of the neck/body joint? Current SG Standards and SG Classics have fairly hefty D-shaped necks. This 60's Tribute has a Slim Taper neck: The Angus Young version has a "Super Slim" neck:

Members Beckman
I have no idea the answer, but I just bought an SG with a 50's neck. It grew on me fast. I really like it. I adjusted to it pretty quickly.
Members jcm800stratman
I had an early 90s SG STD and the neck was pretty slim - definitely more 60s than 50s to me. It was a super fast playing axe.
Members dcooper830
My SG Standard has a chunky neck. So it's probably 50's style..... I'm not sure. But it feels absolutely amazing. I love it!
