Go ahead and bend over. It costs me consistently $80 or more to ship a guitar insured for $800 to NY from TN. It's about $10-20 more every time. As for packing, well there is the advantage of them more likely to honor damage for insurance claims, but I usually double pack my guitars and haven't had anything damaged with any courier.
