I was never a crazed fan, but I've now long been in awe of his voice. I once worked one of his concerts back around '76 or so with the coliseum's crowd control company. As I walked the aisles, helping people find their seats and the usual BS, I took in the sound and that's when it really hit me that he had truly an exceptional tone to his voice. Yeah, we'd all grown up with it, but vocal tone like that really doesn't come around as sweet as that, that often.

Here singing some Willy-

Now I wouldn't go as far as Christian Slater -

but it can be said and still possibly slide by as cool.

Great vocals, and a cool guitar riff.

Here referencing his roots

Add your thoughts and posts, positive or negative, it's all good. ;)

i'll play ...

So cool, we have a play-ah - and a cool vid to boot! ;)

I like the vid clips in that one as well. It helps showcase how much of a "game-un" Elvis was and how he could be to bring it to such varied venues.

When you clink on the link, there's a comment there that reads:

" I? rather see you dead little girl then wed another man" omg. Now thats intense.

And another that reads:

The more interesting part about that line is that John Lennon stole it for the first line? in the Beatles' song "Run For Your Life"-- he admitted it, too!

Not exactly PC in these days ;)

But then again, Rockabilly does have that hillbilly component and that reminds me of the stark lyrics to that lovely little song of unknown (Appalachian origins?) called (Down In The..) Willow Garden.

Down in the willow garden where me and my love did meet

There we sat a-courting my love fell off to sleep

I had a bottle of burgundy wine which my true love did not know

And there I poisoned that dear little girl down by the banks below

I drew my saber through her which was a bloody knife

I threw her in the river which was an awful sight

My father often told me that money would set me free

If I would murder that dear little miss whose name was Rose Connelly

Now he sits by his old cabin door a wiping his tear-brimmed eyes

Mourning for his only son out on the scaffold high

My race is run beneath the sun the devil is waiting for me

For I did murder that dear little girl whose name was Rose Connelly

In fact the major theme music to the movie "Raising Arizona" is a lovely derivation of this song, Down In The Willow Garden

Nice interpretation by Kristin Hersh: "- poisons her, stabs her, and then drowns her all in the same verse, yeah, a feel good song" ;)

Anyone notice that bassist Bruce Thomas is still in flares after everybody else switched to drainpipes?

I didn't notice that but as an Elvis Costello superfan I have noticed that he always seems to recruit bass players who have the groove, and the fills and the feel...I am very impressed with his bass player(s).
