Members mr benn
Hi guys theres an epiphone Tom delonge epi for sale locally, and if I could get it cheap enough I'd love to mod it,but my question is what type of top is goin to lurk under the paint? I wouldnt be expecting a beautifully grained, matched top by any stress of the imagination but would a sold colour like this tend to get the redheaded step-child of maple tops? Any help would be fantastic thanks!

Members kayd_mon
I knew a guy who sanded the neck down on his Dot so it would be slimmer. Or was he just removing the finish? I don't remember. That's about it, though.

Members photon9
I've never done it but stripping a guitar looks like a pain in the ass. I personally would avoid it at all costs. If you're talking about possibly damaging it because it's a semi I wouldn't worry about it. Epi semis are built like friggin' tanks.
Members HanSolo
I would pass on that one and look for a regular Dot in the finish you want. A refinish on a semi-hollow will be a nightmare. If you sand through the veneer on the top, you're done and you have to mask the binding off which sounds easier than it is.
