cool thread, lots of odd but interesting ideas going on.. glad to see it stick around.

here is some world beat kinda stuff tabla was the base track and added backwards guitar and a Koto kinda sounding guitar effect. little self indulgent with the cool guitar affects but it was great fun..

feed back and comments are always appreciated..

Thought I ought to take some time to listen to and comment on the tracks you guys posted. I posted mine just before going to bed (way too late) last night.

Sorry but I can't get yours to play. I suspect I may need QuickTime installed - but I hate that thing with a passion as it always seems to want to take over every sound-related thing on my PC.

Nice jazzy/prog-rockish feel to this. I wouldn't exactly call it Avant Garde but it's cool and there's some nice playing here. I could definitely see this in a movie or game soundtrack.

http://pod.ath.cx/vg99/GRTest.mp3

This on the other hand would certainly qualify as Avant Garde. It reminds me a little of the Fripp/Eno collaborations. Again this could be a very cool soundtrack.

Some very nice "absurd crap" there. Seems to me you could plug a few of these together with some more "normal" tunes between and you'd have a nice epic :)

scuzzo http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7332204

Nice. I love those clean guitar tones and the vibe of this. Sounds very cool on it's own but I can also imagine this being a killer intro to something.

"The Elephants Waltz in B flat". Again, very cool and perhaps a killer intro to something?

"Lions in the Music Room" is also very cool. I'm a sucker for percussive tracks and again, like some of the other tracks here, I can really see this being wonderful as part of a movie soundtrack.

ignatz 12bus

Nice ambient stuff here. Definite spooky/sci-fi movie soundtrack material. When I tried to play "Humidity Song" I got "error on page".

sk8centilli http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5886548

"Lead Intro" - good title :) I'd like to hear where this is going to take us - or maybe it should just stand alone. Avant garde title for an avant garde piece? :)

metalheadUK various

Really nice guitar-osity in the first two - but I knew I was going to get some cool playing from hearing some of your other stuff. Again I wouldn't personally categorise these as Avant garde (picky ain't I?) but ... oh hang on, the Reagan one, yeah, I would put that one in that category :) (I'm typing this as I'm listening in case you couldn't guess). They're all really cool - nice stuff.

docjeffrey Nice playing on these. Definitely not Avant Garde but I really enjoyed listening to them anyway. You get a wonderful variety of tones from those geetars.

realtree71 http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7067309

Really nice dirty-sweet tones you have there. Needs a strange ambient synth backdrop and you'd have a very cool piece IMHO.

Zig al-din http://www.box.net/shared/g4ntiv7ruf

Sorry - I get "error on page" with this one :(

That was a fun way to spend 30 mins or so! And thanks to those who listened to mine - as you can imagine, it made my day to read "That's one of the coolest pieces I've ever heard".

Cheers

Keith

I appreciate the listen and your comments:thu:

I used Logic's ultrabeat for much of the drums - except for a section where I use a NIN drum part. That 6/8 jazz loop you used is one of my favorite loops so I instantly recognized it. You certainly built a nice piece around it though - I am even more blown away by it now that I know how quickly you put it together!

Yeah, about 20-25 minutes. Real quick. That VG99 makes layering SO

easy, it's going to be a huge time saver to come up with arrangments

on the spot.

I've got a 40 minute ambient piece here (see the player in the lower left

hand corner) along with a 10 minute ambient piece and then some newer

shorter pieces.

That might be of interest.

And two short midi guitar studies:

This track was put together with:

-analog electric guitar mesa boogie studio preamp + lexicon vortex + tc electronic gsharp into

roland vg99 midi'ed to:

-korg legacycell "lead guitar" patch

-apple garageband xylophone

-apple garageband marimba

-apple garageband crotales

Lots of fun.

I was trying to see if I could get the device to mistrack while flatpicking at a high rate of speed.

I also wanted to see what would happen if I bent a note using an instrument with a fixed pitch

such as a bell so at the end of some phrases you can hear me bending upwards.

It did a pretty good job, there's a section in the middle where I used the butt-end of the pick

and it did less well there but using the tip for the fast part at the end it tracked every note.

Lots of fun and WAY better than any system I've owned before.

I've been listening to ASB for ten years now and I can safely say that we've entered a new ASB era. Dude, this is amazing stuff. Quantum leap type event in my opinion. Pretty exciting to hear and 'see'

Thanks! :-) I love doing this stuff. It's cool to throw all the rules out and see what happens when you just follow a sound. Beats the hell out of wedding gigs, anyway.

I really like ASB's duet for fan and guitar.

You're not alone! I've just listened to your two pieces. I've done stuff just like this myself. In fact, I used to perform stuff like this live. Not to much fanfare  but there's always somebody in the crowd who digs it. Winning one fan at a time.

Send me an email some time -- I can tell you where the others are

wow, I really like your sense of experimentation. It reminds me that one should place no barriers to one's music. All in all creative and inspirational stuff:thu:
