He modeled those fret markers after the old Fender lap steels that he would pick up on the cheap years ago. He loved that the lap steels sported vintage tele pickups direct mounted to the body. That's what inspired him to cut off his ashtray bridge on his guitar accordingly. I'm not sure what the hate is about regarding his looks. He seems like a nice guy and gear lover as well.
