Not a fan of the SG-100 and SG-200 but, beyond that, it seems very strange and unlikely than a store will offer to throw in cash. You haven't discussed this with them, have you?

I used to own an SG-100 back in the day. Mine came with a Casino style P90 in the bridge, not the neck. A really, really {censored}ty guitar with some sort of whitish wood, and a bent sheet metal tune o matic. I modded the hell out of that guitar - neck bumbucker, phase switch, coil taps, etc. It was still a piece of {censored} - now hacked, but I then learned you can't polish a turd.

I would run like hell from that thing.

pretty much all SGs have thin necks, my 70s Tribute has a pretty thin neck up top but it fattens out to a 50s size LP at the 12th.

the thinnest would be the angus SG, and the gotw 67, also I heard the pete Townshend has a skinny neck fwiw.

also worth noting the sg100 has a maple body-probably heavy as dirt.

My SG Standard has a fatter neck like the Classic. My MM SG is a little thinner,it also has a maple body and is lighter than my SG Standard. It has less hardware though.

Looks like you already decided not to do it, but you could sell the Classic all day long on CL or eBay for $650 - $700.

A music store is unlikely to throw in cash on a trade, unless it's very one sided. They're also never going to give you market value unless you're trading for something really expensive. On this deal, you'd be doing well if they traded you even.

That guitar doesn't look like it's worth $500 to me.

The SG-100 that this thread is about has definitely been modded. I might, hypothetically, be willing to pay $500 for it if I like the way it plays and sounds. If the tuners are indeed "crappy" they can be replaced. The nicks and dings and general cosmetic wear are a non-issue. What matters is whether the electronics are working properly, frets are good, and the neck is not warped. Though some SGs tend to have a wobbly neck. Many years ago I had a mid-1970s SG Custom that was a nice guitar except that it would not stay in tune, not because the tuners were bad or the guitar wasn't intonated but because the neck would wobble. Something like that would make me not buy a guitar even if I liked everything else about it.

The neck on my Epi G400 faded is actually pretty chunky...:o

Now I love SGs as much as anyone, but even I think that SG100 looks like trash.

But here's the real deal: You played it, it appears to have "spoken" to you. You're going to get it and there is no logical advice that we can give you there. It's like when a friend falls in love with an ugly, bitchy girl, you KNOW it's going to end up badly but they aren't going to hear it. :idk:

Find some other way to offload the Classic, since the pawn shop will only rape you, and get it. At least try to haggle 'em down some.

That neck pickup looks like a Super distortion. You can try replacing the neck pickup on your SG classic with one and see if it improves your tone. IMO I don't like the stock pickups Gibsons come with so if you want to change the tone of your SG you can listen to how different pickups sound on youtube and select a different pair if you want. If you like the way it plays but aren't getting along with the sound, a change of pickups might be worth it.
